well, that's what i thought, and it sound reasonable, but:

Yup. RS0, RS1+, and RS2. I think you just didn't type the '+' after RS1, or I drank too much and missed it...

When Tom said RS2 would be ready "in time", he meant "eventually". He didn't mean "in time for 1.0". That is not known at this point, and I would be pretty sure RS2 will not be in Maxwell 1.0. (At this point!).

Maxwell 1.0 should be RS1+ plus new materials; superior to Beta in every respect.

If RS2 will not be in V1 we will not see sunlight through glass
and we wont see clipmaps. And that is NOT acceptable
that's not what i understand. The problem was the material system, it's the big part of the maxwell engine, and with the new material system, and the hybrid RS1+ we will have everything working (sunlight etc....)
go to the bug section, sunlight is there and fixed for RC5 :D

The main problem was that RS2's speed was advertised as V1.0. I hope our license will be worth well beyond V1.0 because many of the features we've bought won't be there.

Hm, i'm not a programmer but i have this itch that keeps telling me that to get clipmaps working with Maxwell you have to "fake" it as i guess that there's no such thing as clipmaps in the real natural physical world which Maxwell aims to simulate. And that in itself causes the developers to get bald quickly and have horrible nightmares about how to solve it. That's what i think.. but i hope i'm wrong.

i don't think they could bring back sunlight without passing throuh glass

Maximus.... clipmaps are the first thing the program processes. Clipmaps are more to the geometry than to the render engine itself.. They re-shape the geometry. There is nothing to do with the light calculations. At least that's how I would implement

Sunlight is one of the most important features for me.. it speeds up the scene setup so much and gives that natural tome right the way for outdoor and indoor scenes.
