That SHOULD be right.. at least it's working for everyone else... 35 licenses.. wonder if that's the issue somehow?

Mike,

Okay. Still cannot get the render icon to work. Just to doublecheck myself, I loaded your scene. The render icon goes nowhere, but choosing the 'render' option from the 3d viewport does bring up a render. On my scene, I was just not being patient enough, I suspect. Still doesn't solve the non-functional render icon tho'.

Here's what I've done:

Uninstalled the beta and installed RC1.
Set the User copy of the PATH variable to C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\;C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\mxcl\

Is there anything else?

Yes, you ALSO need to create another USER environment variable called MAXWELL_ROOT and set its value to C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\

I have a few quick (I hope) questions:

1: Emitters - how do I set one up?

2: Clicking on the little "render" button does nothing, as far as I can tell. Nadazipzilch. I had not previously installed the BETA on this machine (I only bought M~R a couple weeks ago), but I went in and set the paths as suggested (MAXWELL_ROOT = E:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\, and Path = E:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\;E:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\mxcl\ ) and restarted my computer - is there something I'm missing here?

3. I imported an OBJ file into the Studio from C4D (after triangulating) - it came in OK, but w/out smoothing - how do I enable this? Can I? In the preview render, it doesn't smooth either.

That's all for now, I hope!

An Emitter is a type of material. Create a new material in the Material List window, and then open up a Material Editor window to edit it in. It will come up with a default BSDF Basic material. Select and Right-Click to Delete the layer. Then create a new Emitter layer for the material.

Select whichever geometry you want to emit light in the Object list, and Right Click to Assign Material. Assign your Emitter Material.

I'd check to make sure you have your license.dat file in both the Next Limit\Maxwell director and the Next Limit\Maxwell\mxcl directory. It's not clear whether you need to have it in both places or not, but I do...

Can't. Yet. Stay tuned.

I'll keep beating my head against it for now.

Where're you at in LA? I'm just down the coast a bit in northern San Diego.

Me too daros...If I type it in...no problem . I can watch the camera move around the screen.

well...I am off to bed. I can't even move the camera :)

Thanks Mike for putting up with all this....above and beyond IMO.

Paxton.

quick question for everyone including mverta and whiskey.

In the materials editor it gives you a little preview using a sphere. However for me it always seems the background is really too bright and overexposed to preview anything.

Any way to tone down the preview sphere's background?
Not that I can see yet.. that thing just got installed. Clearly not ready. But I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't an easier fix. Look for that to be on the early fix list for the first update.

And why it takes about two minutes to import a 100.000 polygon DXF?
