Firstly i would like to say that i am happy with this thread. Finally somebody speek with us. So everytime i check (every hour  ) for any annoucemet, i can read some new posts, from you Mike.

I believe you would like to say more, but you do not know or you can not. But i only read "maybe" or "can not say" or "i do not know" just "will be better"...

I KNOW Maxwell will be great! That the reason why I spent my money for. But please, can you say something concrete? Anything what we should expect in RC, please....

I espesially expect great imrovements with indirect illumination for my interior scenes lit from outside (sun would be great)

Thank you again for your replies...

I've said concrete things, both in this thread and in the announcement, as well as arranged to have screenshots posted. A lot of the questions I've been asked since don't have concrete answers, or I'm not allowed to elaborate.

But I think you may be beginning to understand how "immediate" this process is... it's not like RC5 is sitting on a server somewhere... it's being crafted right this very second, and every few hours something changes. Sometimes things that work are turned off temporarily to test something esle more easily. Questions about sunlight being turned on could need to be revised 4 or more times in a single day. "Is sunlight in RC5?" 9am "Yes." 11am "No, wait.. it's off again." 3pm "Yes, but no shadows." 5pm "Shadows are back." It would be crazy. I've made sure to try and only state things as facts when they really really look like facts. Because everything else can change. And one thing I learned very early was that just because something isn't turned on doesn't at ALL mean it isn't working. But in an accelerated development process like we're doing, we don't have the luxury of letting everything get placed in before testing. We're testing as we go to bring you RC 5 faster.

Shadow settings...
Understanding that you can't say much about the sunlight status in RC5...
And understanding that being on a mac, I havn't had access to anything but the beta...

Has there been any improvement to the interface for picking the time of day, time of year, etc. to set the sun position?

ie: City: Denver
Year: 2006
Month: 1
Day: 3
Time: 5:00 pm
Daylight Savings: No

Thanks in advance.

Our goal was to release RC5 this week, unfortunately we finished the last changes yesterday

Mike...your post clarified something for me that may be worth highlighting. I assumed by Victors post that the bulk of RC5 was done last week.....by the status report he wrote himself. It seems that is not the case, which is perfectly ok with me, but did cause some confusion with why some things were so 'unknown'. I was thinking that the RC5 had what it had...and it was just being tested for any final bugs. It seems to be much more fluid. Thanks for clarifying..this will assist others in understanding why so many things are indeterminite at this time.

Well again... I think there's a combination of English issues, and a lot of subjective language. A feature may be complete and not integrated, for example. And since the team is ultimately focused on 1.0, I think the approach to any of the RC's is "here's where we are today/this minute/this hour," but that doesn't mean you're really getting a full picture of the journey. I know Victor hasn't intentionally misrepresented anything.

Thanks for all your bridging-the-gap assistance, Mike. 12 pages at this point - a bit of a lengthy read, but worth it. :)

Who's time will be wasted? Not NL's because they will just release the best working version they are currently up to. Your time will only be wasted if you choose to waste it. If you don't want RC5 then pretend it doesn't exist!

EDIT: well i am waiting for a fully working version...

This is what we were promised... buying an alpha

Otherwise i wouldn't have bought it one year ago...
to just sit around and wait...
