I have a dream of a script that would, in the SU plug in, automatically pick my maxwell material library, extract the main images ( reflectance or weight map), reduce them to max of 250 k jpgs, and create from them the material in SU, all automatically :) ( size would be decided during import process..

Am i dreaming big time or is it achievable? I'm creating, or using mxm materials often and its such a pain to resize jpg, recreate a texture in SU etc...where it could be simply one click in SU, import mxm library images etc..with a possibility to add only the new ones that are not already in the SU library

There are 2 pieces to the answer:

- it is possible (and not that difficult) to extract the texture/color information from MXS file

- it is significantly more complicated to do that inside of Ruby script

What it means is that synchronizing MXS and SU materials is possible but it cannot be done directly in Ruby script - what needs to be done is to implement a simple application which will be called from Ruby script and which will extract the information from MXS and return it back - after that script will update SU material.

Additional complication here is that you need this application for both Win and OSX platforms...

I am putting it on my ToDo list as I agree it would improve the workflow significantly. No promises on time of delivery though :-)

man you rule!

As for why to reduce the size of the jpg> i have tested different sizes, and above 250 k jpgs, the SU library becomes VERY heavy and hard to refresh etc...i try to keep my SU textures in the 150-250 ko range per image when i can to keep it manageable ( even with a big computer)...so that resize ability would be needed for sure ( i'm doing it batch with acdsee manually cropping all jpgs over 250 ko until they are ok)
