I posted this one in the SU forum. I love these small models just to try materials and to see what I can do with SU. Needed this fence for a rail for a small bridge and tried it on. Looked good enough and had to use it since this type was used in the project before. Maxwell is crazy combined with SU. One moment you are in a sketch program the other moment looking at an image developing as if you have the real thing in front of you.

To me Maxwell is very handy in the design proces since it showes a very different image compared to SU. I love to tweak a design using both type of renderings.

Did you render this straight out of SU or did you use studio?

My guess is studio...

fv, I imagine that is modeled, but need to ask... is it modeled or is it a combination clip/normal map?

EDIT: Yeah, sorry for wasting time and real estate... just looked again at the post and noticed the DL link to the actual model...
very nice meticulous work.[/b]

this is done straight out of SU. The material is converted on export to "special silver" from the mxm library. This material gives a very typical brand new zinc plated look.

indeed modeled in SU. Modelwork about 5 minutes. Texturing about 1 minute and adjusting the material from the mxm library for the correct path about 5 minutes. Render is a few hours on an iMac G5 1Gb ram.

Never opened Studio for this one.
Although I love to work in Studio. If the model exports very fast I keep things in SU but as soon as the export is going to be a wait I transver my workflow to Studio. I also use Studio to check if a conversion went well.
