Just a quick answer to some of the questions.
-Metals need a high ND number. Some 1.0 libraries had mateials with ND 1. Fixed in 1.1.
-Evening should work, but just a few minutes will make a big difference.
-You can make the background image let light thru in Studio (I think). You could also make it into an mxi emitter...
