Unfortunately I don't really use Maxwell for anything now a days, but, I would still really like to be able to use Maxwell as a preview renderer for sketchup. The problem is that there's still one major issue with the SU plugin that has never been fixed or addressed yet that would greatly improve its functionality (and it should be an easy one to fix).

Please can you add the option to output texture maps into the same directory as the mxs file output and update the mxs files texture paths to these new textures. This would work just like the way exporting a .3ds file does.

As I'm sure everyone is aware if you change or tweak a material textures color in SU, rendering it in Maxwell does not reflect these changes (renders with the original texture color). By adding a texture output/path replace option would fix this (probably a check box in the option dialog). Now I don't want to push it but it would also be nice to add radio buttons as well to select either jpg or png (or maybe just output the same filetype as the original texture). Again, this is basically what the 3ds export does, so it should be very easy to implyment.

When I meet with a client for modeling/texturing review we sit there and change materials and tweak colors. I'd love to be able to instantly output to Maxwell to show them these changes with a 5/10 min render, but obviously can't. It's actually faster to output to 3ds and import into 3D Max into a standard Vray setup and render (what a shame).

I would really love to be able to use Maxwell.

Wow, is it dead in here or what? (chirp, chirp, chirp...)

Hey while I am here on my pretty please thread I just remembered another big one on my wishlist (which between Maxwell and its plugns is about mile long).

Can you please add the check option for low priority rendering from the SU plugin options dialog box (or/and a place to add comand line options). The low priority option in Studio is great for being able to render things in the background, but again, doesn't work straight out of SU. Gotta export/open in Studio before you can use it.

Thank AB

I agree, things seem to be a bit slow all around...then again, I've been gone myself for weeks now.

I do agree with your requests though, especially the low priority option. I never could figure out what the deal is, but 1.0 is sooooo much more of a memory/system hog than before. At least on my machine.

Let's see if these changes get put into the next plugin update.

Adrian?

Mate in part I agree with you about textures from SU, mindful though I understand there may however be an issue on texture resolution with this method as I seem to remember SU exports low res textures. The current status means that you can link to higher resolution maps.

I haven't tested this work around but might suggest before export select all and set maps as bump, this may mean the maps are placed to the bump and the colour setting may be applied to your MXM? I'll try this myself and see what happens.

I myself am finding working through studio / photoshop quite handy. I open studio apply MXM's do quick test render, then with photoshop open open maps and adjust colour, contrast, saturation save the texture under the original name (save original copy under new name) and test render again with little changes to the MXM.

Hey by the way has anyone got a link to where you can download the new plugin, I cant find the link anywhere and haven't received any email notifivcation from NL?

Please don't just gut the thing. Some of us are already building work flow around it. Adding features/fixing bugs is fine.

(OR ship the sdk so we can work it out ourselves)...

that sounds like very good news. if it becomes possible to apply maxwell materials direct from the su materials interface that would be great even better if su could distinguish between native and maxwell mats and bring up the appropriate editor.

im looking forward to it.
