hi there.

i struggle since quite a few weekends with my private pc at home.

Due to traveling a lot I use Maxwell mainly on my work laptop. that laptop has been replaced a week ago with a brand new laptop and without issues I managed to activate the license on the new laptop. as it is a floating license there should be no issue with this.

now I struggle since quite a few weeks to activate the same license on my desktop at home when i find the nerves to try it, yet another time.

whenever I start the license manager it tells me that the activation worked fine - starting maxwell via the studio, maxwell.exe or the cinemaxwell plugin I always get the error message that Maxwell has not been licensed. I keep turning in circles.
I just hate it... why couldn't you just keep the system that worked great since v1?

all of the pcs are running on win10 pro... I wonder why it works on one machine but the other refuses whatver I try.

Did you have a look at the licensing videos from the docs? The first thing you should check is if the rlm server is running correctly by going to localhost:5054.

You should check first of all of course with all firewalls off to see if that isn't the issue. The second most common issue is that the rlm server is either not running.

yeah, tried that quite a few times already.

localhost just tells me the floating license is used and nextlimit is used in the reread slot. for all others it says 'server down', not running, 2 restarts (initiated by me....).

it's just annoying. drinking wine, watching tv, deinstalling maxwell, making sure everything is deleted, all licenses removed, reinstalling, placing licenses... and still nothing works. at least the wine is fine. ;)

btw: thanks you fpor your time on friday evening checking the forums!

You don't have to do all that. Reinstalling Maxwell doesn't solve the rlm issue, it's a separate piece of software. So the server is running then. Click the rlm debug log to see if the default 5053 port is blocked. Maybe some other software is already using that port. In this case the video explains how to change the default port used of 5053 to something else.

Again, you don't have to go through the whole process of reinstalling Maxwell and relicensing it. All that the license validator does is create a license file. Once that's created properly and Maxwell still can't get it's license it can only be three things (in the vast majority of cases): firewall blocking com with the RLM server, the rlm server isn't actually running, or the port used in the license file is already occupied. For the license file location have a look in the docs floating license install page.

once again...

the desktop worked fine once, now doesn't work anymore and is requesting licenses again.

same goes for the laptop that should repace the old one. was rendering with it just a few days ago. now trying around with some models gives the license issues again.

I have no clue what's up with the new version, but I NEVER had issues on the old laptop once it was installed.

here and now even localhost:5045 doesn't give me an reply except an error message, doesn't start the rlm, though according to the task manager it is running 2x. (rlm.exe)

sorry, but for the moment I'm really annoyed with the licensing thingy.

btw:

just restarting the same model as yesterday in Maxwell suddenly renders without any issues.... strange but I'm relieved for the moment. seems like it works here again. (didn't change anything this time)
