Hello Walter,
There is no signal of swapping on that screenshot.

Anyway, the writing routines are a code that is comming for Mac and for Windows, so knowing that it is working fine on OSX we still believe it is not something wrong on the Maxwell side. We suspect from some particular setting on that drive driver on Windows.

We need you to perform another test there: we need you to create another big file on a different software and save it to disk on Windows. To do that, open that same MXI render image in Photoshop (you may need to download and install the Photoshop plugin we provide to import MXI images into Photoshop, that you can also get from our Download Area).
Once installed, drag that big MXI file into Photoshop and open it in 32Bits format (for a bigger files size). Duplicate the image layer a couple of times (to ensure the file is big enough) and then try to save it to PSD format to your SSD disk.
Please let us know if the writing response for that big file from a different software is fast or slow.

Keep me informed.

Greetings

Hello Walter,

The test you sent me on a private email confirmed our guess: creating a big file in Photoshop and trying to save it to disk also reproduced the same slow performance, confirming that the slow writing response it not on the Maxwell writing routines (that we've double checked several times and are working fine under OSX and on other SSD disks from other users in this Forum) but something in the configuration of that drive.

Keep in mind that the writing speed of the operating system (directly copying a file from a folder) has some special treatment in the memory space management to make these tasks particularly agile, but the key feature here is the writing speed from applications (any application capable to generate and write big files).
So, being a hardware configuration issue there is very little we can do from here, rather than encourage you to ask for disk expert advise. We are sure it is just a config setting that needs to be adjusted for smoother performance.

On the other hand, please let us know whatever other question about Maxwell that may arise.

Best regards

I write the email wrote this morning to dario lanza, hoping that this could be useful for other users:

Hello Dario,

finally i have a good news.. we have solved the issue with maxwell and SSD.. as you told me, probably it is a SSD setting that cause maxwell MXI write speed too slow… spending hours and hours to change all the setting concerning the SSD disc, i found a check box in the system setting that I really don’t know what might be… and also the manufacturer of the workstation don’t know what it is.. but it is the setting that change the things… i attach you a screen shot of the setting that i’m telling you.

So now, writing the famous 3,8 giga of MXI, it take only 1 minute… to be honest, it take 58 sec. the bench of maxwell increase a lot.. for the same scene, at the start it was 53 points… now it is 160 points… :-) :-)

Remain a doubt… the speed of photoshop remain the same.. but is not a problem by now cause in this workstation i don’t really use photoshop by now…

That is… i’m happy…. i lost a lot of time in testing… ( and writing you.. ;-) ) I’m really sorry if you have lost a lot of time with me, but as you could think, it was a problem that i really don’t know the cause.

Thanks a lot for your support…
best regards

Hello Walter,

I'm glad to hear that this is working fine now as expected.

Everything sounded to be some drive setting parameter as we were pretty sure the writing routines were working fine and identically on each operating system.

Anyway, it is good to know that the option was finally found and that it is working fine now. And thanks for sharing the solution, it can he helpful for other users in the same situation.

Let us know if any other problem arises.
