Some thoughts that I will be happy to share with you…
I love MAXWEL render! But…
I am self employ in the field of Exhibition. Every project I provide to client 8-10 renders with the views of the exhibition booth. For producing the render I use small render farm at home. Here is the render farm that use old computers:
• Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @ 2.2GHz Windows 7 64 Bit Operation system
• Intel i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz Windows 7 64 Bit Operation system
• Intel 2Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz Windows 7 64 Bit Operation system
• Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz Windows 7 64 Bit Operation system
Every render is 20X15cm 150dpi. I use Maxwell 3 with network render. The time it takes is 1 Hour and few minutes. So it is night to render (8-10Hours!).
My first and important question to you all, IS IT NORMAL? IS IT MAKING SENSE?
Now just imagine that the client want me to do changes…so it is a matter of 8-10Houres again!!!
Before MAXWEL I render with FormZ and it took 1Hour-1.5Hour, good quality renders.
I try to do my best and keep render with MAXWELL but the reality in the day to day work can't let me continue, it is almost impossible.(just to mention I love MAXWELL very much!) what can I do???

Well... to be honest, those are quite old and low-end HW components, so you can't expect miracles.

E2200 - 2 core, 1MB cache, 2.2GHz, architecture from 2007
i7 2600K - 4 core (8 logical cores), 8MB cache, 3.4 GHz, architecture from 2011
Core2Quad (probably Q6660) - 4 core, 8MB cache, 2.4GHz architecture from 2007
Pentium D (probably 820D) - 2 core, 2 MB cache, 2.8GHz architecture from 2005

I love Maxwell too, but I would recommend to build some serious workstation (it doesn't need to be dual Xeon setup) some of the latest i7 with 32GB/16GB RAM.

All of your systems are quite slow for rendering, but the two Pentium's and core2 quad really doesn't make any sense for rendering any more - especially the Pentiums! All three combined should be slower than your i7 2600. And this one is also not very fast. Only one i7 3930K/4930K/5280K hexacore will give you around BM 500.

I would keep the i7 2600 for now and replace the other three with one hexacore or octocore system: Haswell-E, socket 2011-3, i7 5820K (BM~500) or 5960X (BM~660). Or, depending on your budget, you could add another quadcore: Haswell, socket 1150, i7 4770, 4770K, 4790K (BM~400-460)
The problem with socket 2011-3 at the moment is that the you need DDR4 RAM, which is still quite expensive (DDR3 too, but DDR4 even more ;) ). And the mainboards are more expensive as well. The advantage would be, that you have the ability to upgrade to the octocore Haswell (5960X) or Boardwell-E which will be released in Q4 2015.

You should take a look at the benchwell scores - but read it carefully and double check the numbers because it is already messed up with many wrong and stupid entries (overclocking not mentioned, wrong/impossible values in the info,...)

As main WS I use dual Xeon setup:
MB: ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS
CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E5 2680v2 (40 logical cores)
RAM: 32 GB Kingston HyperX 1600MHz
SSD: 256GB Samsung 840 PRO
GPU: AMD HD7970 DC2T

like numerobis said, I would keep i7 2600 and,depends on your budget, replace those 3 old computers with new quad/hexa/octo core system.

your machine is too outdate for maxwell render, I think you need at least to upgrade same nos. of all machine to i7 5960, may be have a nice result.

Maxwell workflow depends on you and not hardware:
on Sunday, tell the client you're working on it.
on Monday send him a low-res sketch.
on Tuesday tell him you're waiting for remarks.
on Wednesday tell him you're working on those remarks.
on Thursday tell him you're almost done so you'll probably send it the minuet you finish it, "hopefully today".
render it over the weekend, and send it on next Sunday...
