Yes. Just make sure you uncheck "Export Vertex Colors" in the Maxwell section of the shave hair attribute editor, otherwise the colors computed by Shave will be multiplied by the reflectance 0 textures you use. Alternatively, you can apply a white texture in your material, enable "Export Vertex Colors", and use Shave's tip color, root color and hue/value variation material parameters (or textures).
