have any of you guys run into this? Maxwell was working perfectly fine last night, this morning when I try to open a scene maxwell crashes whenever I try to load any texture. Even a dummy texture i made and trying to load it into a blank new scene. I uninstalled and reinstalled maxwell even but that does not fix the problem.

some more info...I can render things fine, as long as I don't try to update the texture. I also updated my graphics card driver, thinking that may be causing an issue. No luck though.

After more testing, it's even when i just click on any material that has textures loaded, maxwell will crash. I don't even have to be trying to update or adjust textures for this to happen.

new update...opening a scene with materials and textures already in it will cause maxwell to crash upon opening although importing the same scene will at least let me open it. it will crash if I select any of the materials it will crash.

So far it seems like it has something to do with loading the previews of materials or calling up textures or something.

Pretty odd for something like this to just come out of nowhere. Your saying that you uninstalled/reinstalled might imply that you're on Windows; is that the case? If so, I might check whether Windows Update has made any changes which would seem to correspond with when this started happening.

Next, I would test, very methodically, whether this is really true for all textures, or if it is limited to a particular format, to textures created/edited with a particular application, or to textures located on a particular drive, or in a particular directory.

Lastly, I would probably try uninstalling, manually ensuring that the entire Maxwell 2 directory had been removed (also empty the trash, if on osx), rebooting, and then reinstalling using a fresh download, in order to eliminate the possibility that the installer is damaged, or that old, damaged portions of the application were left after uninstalling. When downloading, I would make sure I had no kind of virus scanner running, and that I did not use any third-party download program.

thanks for the response jdhill. yeah i'm on windows. i haven't gone through and tried all formats but I have tried both jpg and png and both cause that problem. Now that you mention it, I do believe there might have been a windows update, I'll try going back to a previous restore point.

I did do a fresh maxwell install with a new download but that didn't fix anything unfortunately. This is incredibly weird. It's one of those things that is tough to troubleshoot because it happened so suddenly. If I find anything else out I'll update. Thanks.

nevermind, it worked for a day then when back to the crashing problems. I've noticed it happens with any texture, no matter the format.

What part of the computer is being used with showing the preview of the texture in the texture window? Ram, Video Card etc? Is that image stored on the hard-drive?

Since i can actually rendering scenes in maxwell render without them crashing, I'm thinking it is an issue with the calling of textures and the preview or something along those lines. Basically, as long as i'm not trying to visually access the textures it will work.
