Pretty odd for something like this to just come out of nowhere. Your saying that you uninstalled/reinstalled might imply that you're on Windows; is that the case? If so, I might check whether Windows Update has made any changes which would seem to correspond with when this started happening.
Next, I would test, very methodically, whether this is really true for all textures, or if it is limited to a particular format, to textures created/edited with a particular application, or to textures located on a particular drive, or in a particular directory.
Lastly, I would probably try uninstalling, manually ensuring that the entire Maxwell 2 directory had been removed (also empty the trash, if on osx), rebooting, and then reinstalling using a fresh download, in order to eliminate the possibility that the installer is damaged, or that old, damaged portions of the application were left after uninstalling. When downloading, I would make sure I had no kind of virus scanner running, and that I did not use any third-party download program.
