Thomas An. wrote:The sun should not be adjusted in this fashion... sunlight light should always have one intensity at a specified time of the day. A different time means different position of the sun (different shadows and that); which complicates matter. The video illustrates interactive intensities, not interactive positions.
It is a "fantastic" option of emission and user may leave it intact, no problems here.

Most likely not, because reflections are dependent on camera position. Changing position means we have to render all reflections and highlights again.

i just got home a few minutes ago, i haven't seen the video yet, thomas is back again, you can turn lights on and off.. what a great night.

I think you misunderstand how it works. (you can interactively adjust emitters on a single mxi ... there is no need to combine many mxi files in order for the light-intensity feature to work)

Now that they've done something nice for this whining community, if they don't follow up with another video / update within a week, it's going to be cry baby central around here.

oh and great video, glad to see this progress.

In a typical product-shot type render, where you've got a key light and a couple of fills, you can adjust the intensity of each light in realtime as the render progresses, or after it's finished, as often as you like. More fill, less fill, more key, etc., it's up to you, no adjusting/re-rendering required. The time savings is unbelievable. Before this feature, you'd have to adjust a light, render a bit, adjust the lights some more, render a bit, adjust the lights some more, etc. This feature will have you spoiled rotten in about .00001 seconds. :D

btw: .....hi thomas ...

With emitter input in lumens/lux et al., it also becomes a pretty interesting tool for interactive lighting design, not to mention presentation :)

maybe one quick question ......

Mike said, "....you can adjust the intensity of each light in realtime as the render progresses, or after it's finished, as often as you ".

but that means the render has to calculate everything first(spectrally speaking) ....right? ,of course it does .....forgive me, ....stupid question .....I feel dizzy.

i've seen the video, twice. not only we got our hdr output to play with after the render is finished, but adjusting it on a per emitter basis... i'm going to play it again once more.

You won't notice anything different about your render... this doesn't slow it down or hinder it in any way. There's just suddenly this new feature in there that seems virtually impossible but isn't. :)

So this would mean, correct me if i'm wrong :) but when we use HDRI's then we don't need to set the intensity of those before we start rendering like we had to do with the beta using the Viewer, but now instead with this new sexy thing we can do it on-the-fly even with HDRI maps. That function in itself is gonna make me loose sleep tonight :P ..if it's like that.
