Don't slay her for borrowing that word, besides it's being taken outta context as it belonged to a separate discussion in the other thread. Don't kill the messenger guys. :)
The things i wrote are not about this "juicy" word.
It was about how it was presented to us in this post.
It was about the fact that if you want to present some features you call great (revolutionary/groundbreaking/wonderful/nice/good, whatever) you must choose words that at least make these features SEEM this good. If in fact they are not.

This feature, as it was explained, has almost nothing new, except bloom, which can be easily made in post and a new brand name.
Nothing exciting in it.
But anything can be made much more exciting using right words!

compare:
4 Mb RAM;
MILLIONS of bytes RAM!!!

Just kidding, but you got the idea :)

PS. I in no way want to offend Nicole, it is jush what i think will help to improve (or at least not spoil) customers attitude towards NL.
Cheers!

I'm not sure if that was sarcasm or not seco, but i had to say it because people were using her statement posted in the other thread in the wrong way in this thread, it wasn't meant like that and it can be seen if you read the post again. It was all said with a sense of humor, as a joke.

Ok we're on page 3 of this thread and I'd say 80% of the people either don't care about this feature or won't use it and 20% like it. :?

I remember Mihai asked whether we would like to have these "small" features as version updates or patches and I think it's safe to say that this kind of stuff would be better served as patches. The fact is that noting they put out is going to satisfy most of us, the taste in our collective mouths is just to bad. When you go for a year without any updates and no information this is the kind of response you get. I'll be happy to try out this feature but like so many others I'm still hopeful the best features have yet to be released.

Hello, i´m one of those guys who always has give his support to Next Limit Team.

Since long time ago, we have experience the great power of Maxwell render and the benefits and problems that comes with an unbiased render engine.

In the course of the time, this tecnology has grow up, with new competitors, and i think the policy of Next Limit has gone in the wrong direction.

I don´t want to speak a lot until i see Maxwellrender 1.5, but the great improvements i read, doesn´t seem for me so.

The z-clip is a good tool, but simply that. It isn´t very dificult to program the near clip plane of an objet to the camera.

The vignetting configuration isn´t so too. Another tool o variable to control, but nothing more than this.

The Simulens, is more of the same. Another varibales to control, but guys, this tools can be seen nowadays in realtime systems, or videogames.

The only great improvement i see so far, and taht i take care that sure it has cost a lot of effort and work is the optimization of code to make memory handling better.

I talk with Juan about one great problem of maxwellrender that we all know. Bump mapping or normal mapping. It´s simply ironic to see how 20 hours of rendering cooking can´t calculate an apparent displacement effect or depth effect. When Videogames with parallax occlusion can recreate 60 or 80 frames/sec with an effect of depth better than maxwell.

Other problems of the policy is the constant changes of the lines of maxwell, that causes that scenes or objetcs with materials of maxwellrender 1.0 doesn´t work with maxwellrender 1.2 or so one.

The result, with each new version we have to update our whole library of 3d models and materials.

Well it´s only my opinion.

Best regards, and another time my confidence vote for next limit.

Damn boy, you are right about it....Almost 100%

These new functions are not great improvements, only more detailed controls over the camera and some bug fixes...

The only thing we have to look foward on this 1.5 is it's capacity to output 32 bit channel and Hi-res image ... the rest is really that kind of stuff we would barelly use in a "everyday" basis.

Hope 1.5 packs some nice surprises and shut me the hell up.

I was disappointed ,but then I started thinking and after watching the movie I realized how nice this feature is at least to me. I realize that this is better than volumetric and other things. I think that this time they did a bad job at showing us the feature. I would love to see a movie of the actual work flow with the GUI.

the same counts for z-clip. I'm actually more interested in how these features are implemented. the movie hints that this works the same as multilight, so I think this is actually very powerful (this is even more the case with z-clip)!

No way Max, just the opposite. I was also trying to add a bit of levity myself (poorly, sorry). It gets kind of heavy around to forums of NL sometimes. Plus, I did think it was very cool the way you stepped up to defend Nicole. I completely agree with your "Don't shoot the messanger" statement.

im glad they enhanced the glare its not that great now and im happy aboutthe improvments

BUT for it to be worth while. .this new SimuLens MUSt ba also available for ANIMATIONS too and I'm not refering to multilight animations. .Im refering to be able to use simulens settings with a batch render job of a true animation.. hope this will be implimented since ive made that wish a while ago.. also hope they fix(waterSetting)/enhance the physical sky too

I'm glad to hear that seco :) thanks for agreeing with me. I couldn't let the joke in the other thread turn into something ugly in this thread so i had to step up and protect her, i'm sure you would have done the same thing. And her job is to be the link between the coders and us so she's obviously in the line of fire when things turn nasty on the forum.

Thanks :)

at least we know maxwell can simulate R2-D2's better than any other render engine :D

Well, I like it and will use it often. Glare and ML working together will be a great thing for me, so thanks Nicole.

On top of that I would say that the improved memory handling alone is worth the 1.5 major update name. I understand why there is so much disappointment in this thread so sorry guys but I am looking forward to 1.5 still.

Cheers,

D

I have no idea, so I ask...

Is this difference between 'real' and reflected expected behaviour?
