- They explained the reason why you can't see any stars several times, and if i remember correctly it was for reasons like the camera could not capture them with the short exposuretimes they used on the moon.
- They passed through the very outer edge of the Van Allen belt and only for a brief time, about 60 minutes so they didn't get affected in that short time by the increased radiation there.
- The shadows issue depends on a objects angle to the sun and the angle of the ground it's sitting on which can alter the direction of the shadow. This will all affect the angle at which you see the shadow fall from the object. As 3d-nerds you guys should know this stuff already. :)

Max, .....60 minutes of that type of gamma exposure is 59m and 59seconds too long. Your dead.

___________

Glebe, again, .....nice find! ....and yeah, ......that's a problem Houston.

Yeah and that's why the X-ray technician hides out in the lead room while they 'take' your picture.

Safe to superman maybe.... lol.. I know, because he's been documented here doing just that, ie flying thru space. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDj3cesmhZM

Lost transmission....
Apollo 11: Houston, we have a problem.

Houston: What's going on ?

Apollo 11: Well..... Uhhhhm, ......We were thinking and uhhhh, ....well, .....we're having doubts to us actually pulling this off ?

Houston: Just shut up, ...you signed the agreement, ...do the job, ...it's for the country.

Apollo 11: Right right, .....roger that...

30 seconds pass > silence

Apollo 11: Houston come in ....

Houston: Go ahead ...

Apollo 11: We were thinking again that maybe as time goes by that technology will probably improve and we'll be found out.

Houston: Don't worry about that we've got that figured out .... We'll lose the tape when necessary ... Easy peasy....

Apollo 11: Oh right, ....simple, ....sorry, ...we're just nervous.

Houston: Yeah, that's why we tell you what to do and not the other way around.

Apollo 11: Roger that.....

_____ more silence

Apollo 11: Houston ?

Houston: Shut it....

Apollo 11: Yep, ....roger that.

Chris,

1) The astronauts were in broad daylight. It would make sense for them to land on the light side and not the dark side of the Moon. In fact, if this had been faked, they would certainly have added stars, since people would expect to see them. Newbie question.

2) and 3) The gold mylar (people mistake it for foil) was there to protect against these things. However, total protection from cosmic radiation was/is probably not possible.

Also, why go to the trouble of designing and implementing the Lunar Lander when the average American would expect them to land directly on the Moon from Earth? The original plan was to land directly on the Moon and they tried to make it work, but couldn't. A previously spurned plan to have a separate Lunar landing module was given another look and that's the only way they were able to complete the mission. The Lunar Lander was conceived and developed at NASA/Langley, where my dad was a scientist for 30 years. Not that he worked directly on it (that I know of) - his specialty was researching stall and wing flutter in aircraft, as well as studies of the human eye.

Here is an interesting film clip of early lunar landing simulations: http://www.dailypress.com/videobeta/wat ... &src=front. That red and white structure is still there at NASA/Langley.

Bubbaloo wrote:I'm with you on this. I have gone back and forth on the fakery topic. I heard Buzz Aldrin punched out a guy once for asking him if the landing was faked.
He punched him out for calling him a liar and a coward. Plus, I think the guy was stalking him.

I love those baked potatoes that come wrapped in that gold foil. So fancy.....

NASA should have marketed that product, "Good enough for spacecraft, good enough for your potatos". And later, Dan Quayle wouldn't made a nice spokesperson. :)

Remember, us luke-warm believers want to fully come over to your side of the fence. Nice points... Now, back to that fence I'm sitting on.

ps. It would have been nice if one of the boys just took one night time shot. I mean, come on, I bet if they were Japanese astronauts that they'd have taken enough pictures to make a stop action film from start to finish !
