On the bright side....

I've just seen an increadible thing. You CAN use MXM materials inside the plugin. That soves everything.. You use the M~Studio to make the materials and use your own software automatically send the images to RENDER.

So, Maxwell studio will be a great material editor and the plugin doesn't need to have all the functionalities because you'll always be able to grab your favorite MXM maerial.

NOW what bothers me is why NL is still improving the GUI. I mean M~studio is already doing 10X more than anyone would ask for. A great surprise! If it didn't crash so much it would be more than already!

But without the render we have nothing!
If the question is do we need a GUI? well we need to RENDER!

Hi,
This is our target. We do not want to force you to get a certain workflow, but we want you can choose your way for each project or each platform. We will give you a way to let you apply mxm's into your plugin, even a way to launch the material editor as a standalone. It will come very soon, just when we finish the essential areas we are doing now. Btw we are not worried about the quality of the new engine. We are not so silly to say that it is better than the beta in this stage. But obviously if we didnt think it is going to be better we wouldn never modify it. This tests were done with the new engine

The old beta was a cul-de-sac. Some of the clasic wishes (clipmaps, sun and dielectrics..) were almost imposible to solve, and also the render times were too big. This new engine is so better that is impossible to measure. But we need to fix and adjust some parameters before it's ready. We have all almost finished, just need to connect the different modules and fix the bugs. You know that due to the pressure to release M~R it has been released early, but as developer I say that things are running fine. Please be confidence in the people who has done the render with best quality of the world. We are not interested in doing renders with cr**y cg feeling. We have got huge enhancements in the last week and we are going out of the tunnel. Soon you will have the render you deserve.

Cheers,

Juan

Adam, you only now realized this?? No wonder all these comments from so many people. I thought since this has been posted in every thread regarding Studio, people would understand how the plugins would work. I think I must have written at least 5 times, that the material assignment can be done via plugins only.

That's how I've been using it so far.. What I also like is just setting the scene in max and saving as .mxs.. all the triangulation will be done automatically and tweaking can be done in Studio. Well I'm just playing so far.

Btw, Juan, thank you very much for this message, I've been wondering about the NL point of view on these RC's, this certainly gives me more trust about the new engine, as well as understanding why you ditched the beta engine.

Exporting the mxs from a plug-in app seems to be the best way to get good, smooth geometry into the Studio. I experimented with several file types from Rhino, and couldn't get a satisfying result with anything except for mxs.

Juan, I'm looking forward to the improvements to the render engine. Full steam ahead and Godspeed! :)

Thanks Juan - again though, comments like this mean a great deal to all of us expectant users, NL would duck a lot of the heat coming their way if this sort of thing was put in the announcements section for all to see - it would also save a lot of the frustration and speculation which returns to the forum with NL's silence - am looking forward to further progress
