Image

I left a simple diamond model to render overnight. Scene consists of 1 diamond model, 1 ground object, 1 emitter, 1 Maxwell camera.

The positive comment I can make is that:

1. Render speed (in relation) to noise clearance is much improved.

2. Light transmission seems better in that the black shadow problem may have gone (1 render isn't going to satisfy me with that one).

The negatives:

1. Too many crashes during set up.

2. I freeze of Maxwell during a test render.

3. No spectral dispersion rendered (how do I swich that on if the abbe does not control it?)

4. Prominent jaggles of some edges at around 45 angle (this fault looks terible actually).

5. Image looks over smoothed (is this why the noise clears faster). I had this thought about the infamous pre release images.

5. Noise still apparent after about 8 hours of rendering.

6. Unresponsive camera.

7. Camera that I cannot match up with a Cinema one for purposes of compositing.

I am now convinced the right thing for me to do is to reinstall Beta and tolerate the longer render times for improved image quality and improved workflow with Cinema4D. Personally, I don't see RC being fixed for many months to a point when (if ever) the nice crisp images of Maxwell Beta will return.

To turn on dispersion, there's an icon in the top right corner of the material editor, same row as the File menu. Hover your mouse over the icons to see what they do.

Mihai Iliuta: Thanks for the dispersion info' I will try and keep that in mind. However, life with RC is over for now. Just about to get shut of it and wecome back Beta.

To come back to the original question: when do we see the beautiful images of the betatesters?

I get the impression that there hasn't been so much betatesting. There are about five people who seems to be part of this team which is extremely little. And these five or so never really seem to have pushed the software to its limits. Whiskey admitted that he 'wasn't really a texture guy', another (forgot who) claimed that he never noticed the lack of sky/sun as he doesn't use it much.

However I can be mistaken and so I ask for the images proving RC's great capabilities. For sure you must have been working with advanced materials on interesting models. Plz show them so that we know that RC is capable of quality renderings.

The only success story that I'm bothered to entertain, after being insulted by Next Limit, is a full refund.

You say following:
Attenuation = The distance that contols the absorption. If you have 1 cm diameter ball and you want to make it glass, you need to set here 10 mm for 50% absorbtion. Lower values will make it look non-transparent. In other hand, if you set 10 m atten. for a 10 cm ball and the transmittance color is red, it will look like a white glass due to very low absorption.

However if i have two objects, of the same type of glass, one 10mm big and the other 10cm big and i give both the same material (ex: attenuation 3m), i will have the phisically correct result?

Thanks wiskey.
For a moment i understand that for each kind of object, depending on it's magnitude, we have to change the Attenuation... This would be terrible for my purposes with Maxwell.
But now i'm happy again.

OK! sorry for my terrible english.

The Attenuation is a variable related to the composition of a material and not to the magnitude of the objects.
The optical result changes with the magnitude of objects.

That is important because i think many people misunderstand that.

Andy -

None of this really has anything to do with me, per se, but since you asked, I've owned an operated a post-production company in Hollywood for the last 10 years working on marquee projects for the studios - in advertising, commercials, print, feature visual fx, etc. There is only a tiny fraction of work on my site; frankly I'm too busy, and I have more work than I can handle as it is. The Superman logo I did for Superman Returns is easily the most public, but in no way the highest profile work I've done. You're welcome to challenge my credentials and expertise if you want, but it really isn't about me - it's about Maxwell, and my opinion stands. As I said before, Maxwell isn't going to succeed or fail because of me, but because of what it is. And I think it's the future.
