Experimenting with the new material editor ..



Can anyone tell me where I put in the color/bitmap for my base material?

I tried that with all the t's but I keep getting a message saying that the texture can't load. The texture is a jpg.

bmp worked but then crash the app

Reflectance = The strength and color of reflection (use roughness to control the diffuse behaviour)
Transmittance = Transparency/Opaqueness (e.g Glass objects)
Attenuation = The distance that contols the absorption. If you have 1 cm diameter ball and you want to make it glass, you need to set here 10 mm for 50% absorbtion. Lower values will make it look non-transparent. In other hand, if you set 10 m atten. for a 10 cm ball and the transmittance color is red, it will look like a white glass due to very low absorption.

Nd = Refraction Index
Abbe = Dispersion coeff.

Roughness = Shiny/Dull (Micro Roughness)
Anisotropy = Anisotropic Surface Structure (Micro Grooves)
Bump = Mapped surface bumpiness
Angle = Anisotropy orientation (Groove Rotation)

Whats the difference between "Real" IOR and "Complex" IOR?

Complex ior is a database file that defines how light energy is reflected & transmitted per wavelength, Real ior is other way to define a surface with a not so accurate way but more intuitive for the user that wants to create his own material.

Does mapping work at the stage of RC1? PNG's load..but cant get them on an object.

well, i have no clue and i'm just messing with layers, weight maps and parameters, but this new mat system looks frigging amazing to me:

wow, i even managed to get a glass mat out of it:

anyway, these new mats are just unbelievable.

Regarding the Basic material, which can be either a BSDF or a coating. As I understand it the order of the layers does not matter, only the weights. Is that correct?
