well it seems obvious no?
that is called ISO 9000 process > say what you will do, write it , then do it..

i agree with mihai( great avatar btw where do u get them..?) the most important thing is speed, then features like fog which i will never use anyway... ( i imagine showing a project to my client " yes you cant see much, but its november and its dense fog.. sorry about weather..).

Speed is everything! Once you have it you can experiment, turn around difficulties to finally achieve some results etc... i'm sure NL team worked mostly on improving the core so speed is fine... then added features and will go on improving features and speed..

Go on NL.. I know what it means to work months in a row without week ends etc sacrificing personnal lives etc...so I know the human cost of what you're achieving... personnaly i respect that ! So I can wait a few days too..

well, i agree speed should come first as a priority, but fog can be of some use if you're after volumetric light effects or volumetric caustics (is not only good for foggy weather).

i forgot, thanks thomas for coming up with the Q&A thread (and thanks for taking the time to keep it constantly updated and in "good shape"). very good idea and useful resource.

Anyone else worried that this simple yes no question was not answered in the first round? Man I hope we can have dialectrics working properly....

Well, actually, I have been asking for months, and yes, it has become a total bore...so friday, we'll finally see! :)

I tend to gather from what little information I've been able to dig up that its not yet working, but i hope to be proven wrong!

No comment sometimes is an answer as well. Yes, it worries me, too.

However, I find it quite nice that this question stays there on the top of the list until there's an answer, even if the answer is no.

On (Q051129.W001.0031.rivoli)
is there any plan for supporting different render passes (such as diffuse, reflections, refractions and so on)? can we expect it in a future point release, if not in version 1.0, or is totally incosistent with the technology maxwell is based on?

Victor seems to have responded earlier on this question:
- Is there any pass support? we all know how important pases are in film production. It fine for still renders of interriors, however film approach requers more elaborate and flexible techniques.

with:
We support alpha, z, cosine camera and normal. We will be adding more if needed.

Seems like we can't expect the typical passes in the near future.

First of all, there is no more thing called "dielectrics" :D
So, don't worry. As I told, when it's clear, we will reply. "Not clear" also doesn't mean "not working".;)

Tom, why don't you put this in the question topic ??

I guess because Tom said 'As I told, when it's clear, we will reply"

Earlier on he indicated that on some bug related questions there are no yes/no answers as the underlying technology changed. I guess this is one of these cases.

Adehus, you seem surprised :D Yes, the question asks it for "dielectrics" and currently with new material system there's just 1 shader which you can make glasses, too. Beginning to give answer to this question like "Yes, dielectrics will let the sunli....." is a bit obsolete now. I want to give an answer for the new system when it's clear. As I said, I don't want to tell you anything that I am 99% sure. I need 100%.

I see from the news that the new material editor will support many new features and that's really great, but why it's not "clear"? there are some things still to be redefined or we are in the feature-freeze phase?

I'm going to take a wild leap here, but I'm guessing the dielectrics material will be simulated by using the "coatings" feature of the new materials, and assinging your IOR, ABBE, etc to it.

Have I guessed right Tom?
