Please look at the following. I understand the "copy the *L* field to get the focus correct; the problem is that the M~R "camera VIEW doesn't match the SW camera view. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Change the custom angle field in sw camera setting to a preset. ie. 35mm, 50mm etc. Now make sure in your maxwell camera setting you manually set this to the same number. It is a bit tedious to set up right now. Hope this helps.

A suggestion: If the aspect ratio of your SWX window does not match the render window, you wil get this effect.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the repsonses. I changed the cameras to make sure they matched (both are set for 50mm).

JesperW: I'm confused by your statement (I'm a little frustrated and not thinking clearly...). Are you referring to the SWX camera "window"? This is set by the camera setting, right (i.e. 50mm). Or are you referring to something else? If the camera in SWX matches the camera in M~R, shouldn't this be correct?

Thanks again...

Hello Mike,

so have you set both focal length fields (SW and Maxwell camera tab) to the same value? If so you must see the almost exactly the same image in SW viewport and in the final render. As Jesper says, the only thing that could cause distorsions between the two views is the different aspect ratio. (aspect ratio = width/ height ). I can see that the aspect ratio of the SW viewport tha you are rendering is less than 1 (the height is greater than the width ). you can adjust the aspect ratio in the Maxwell property manager to match exactly what you see in SW. If you still have issues please let me know.

Juan

Mike did changing both cameras to 50mm cure your problem, I’m a little confused?

The green border around the image in the camera window should show the correct aspect ratio no matter what aspect his screen is set to, or am I wrong? In this particular instance Mike did not have the same camera presets in SolidWorks and Maxwell hence the differing views or at least that’s my assumption as he has a custom angle in the SolidWorks screen image.. not 50mm.

It would be nice if we could also copy the custom angle into Maxwell instead of just the camera preset 50mm, 200mm etc there has been a couple of times when I could not get the same camera settings for Max and SolidWorks and had to compromise.

No... changing the cameras to match did not fix it... here are more images. Sorry for the size of them, but I did not want to loose any clarity.

BTW, a secondary question: There are two objects in the scene. The Scene Data bears this out: 2 meshes. Why are there three (3) diffuse objects?

EDIT: I agree with John; the "green border" sets the aspect ratio. If
the cameras match, the "camera views" should match. If it is somehow tied to the aspect ratio of the active window, that is messed up...

OK, here we go again...

Hi Mike,

As you know the camera in SW has been introduced in the last 2006 version and some aspects will be improved soon. You can send me your scene to juan@nextlimit.com so I will take a look to see what's happening. Sorry for the inconveniences, you will see huge improvements in the next weeks that will allow you to put your renders in a higher level ;)

Thanks Juan. I'm less concerned that there are differences between the two cameras. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing something wrong!

If for the timebeing (until 1.0) I have to fidget with the camera a bit, I can accept that. It's easy enough to know that one needs to get a little closer than the viewport shows to get the image framed. Of course, we will expect everything to be perfect for 1.0 :D
