yes, but as Mihai suggested, is it a bug, or is it normal...? I thought it was normal...

I wonder if the reflector is playing a role here.... mmm.. I tried with a ball inside a modled empty ball (boolean 2 balls), with a 6 mm thickness... but it does not show it... strange... might it be a magic lamp....

Tom, do You want me to send you that lamp...?

nice test... but not indeed posible solution for an entire scene... It will take 4x+render time ...

sure.... I found it just trying different settings.... I am curious to know why it does not show up with a simple object... :?:

.... and I still don't know if it is a bug or normal...
here I mapped an image to the tube....

That looks exactly like the fog we had in previous versions......you said:
Hervé wrote:backgground because I activated skydome at 0,3 if I remember correctly...
Skydome at 0,3? What does that control? Perhaps it's a strange bug with the LW version and fog is still accessible from it :?:

Herve, thank you for posting this crazy effect.

I have tested your scene in Rhino and ... I get a fog lamp. :D

Interesting, if I hide all geometry of the lamp, only the emitter, the sss plastic and the plastic wall stay in the scene, than I get a fog light cone. :?:

And ... if I hide the plastic wall, than the fog is gone. The volume between the sss plastic and the plastic wall acts as sss volume.

... now I get this effect very stable in a simple scene. In my scene are a single surface emitter cylinder, a single surface sss plastic around and a diffuse material wall without sss.

well the wall did not have SSS applied.... well I've tried it in a large scene... looks ok..

Mihai, it is working also without skydome... and also in rhino as it sounds... thanks for testing Micha....

anyone tested in Max...? maybe Max could do it... or Mihai... just to see it's not a LW plugin bug...

... and you can speed up the effect if your single surface sss material is a diffuse material. I use abs 0 and sss 1.
Wow, I hope we get this effect regular.

... then turn SSS down to 0...

fact is you don't "always get this fx, just in precise cases.. in fact I find it pretty cool...

and as far as I've gone, it does not add too much to the render..
