you don't need fancy paint solutions... maxwell plastic can come REALLY close...

just regular plastic using a bitmap to bring down the reflection.

carpaint behaves differently in studio setup then in the outdoors. In the image shown mini has no light scattering as the base coat would have.

depends on the paint. I suppose with a car like a 'beemer' there would be a clearcoat which gives two specular surfaces, one highly reflective one a bit more matte. Since there isn't a car shader the two skin approach may work... but MAN what a hit in noise and render time.. . Though I still think you would get a more realistic feel for the auto if you could achieve a higher rendering level, perhaps place it outside until next month (at which time I'm hoping we have layered textures and perhaps real anisotropic effects..

You could also render a specular pass for the undercoat on just the body and comp it. That would be WAY faster and almost noiseless... just a thought.

for now...Lesser of two evils I'd say.
