Still, its a fine rendering and a nice design for a loft.

yeah, i think that the flash kind of 'spooks' the image. I have no idea what that means, but it seems to fit.
Modern interiors such as this one almost always require 'warm' light to soothe that cool minimalist approach (IMHO). Although, i don't know what the intention was so i'll shut up.

btw: (i guess i won't shut up) I'm still waiting to see that first non-minimalist / redneck / collector of figurines / dog/cat hair textured pine furniture having / 10pt. buck taxidermy with LeCorbusier furniture interior render. .........it's late, forgive me.

Could be nice, but the image quality looks bad, like a biased renderer with artefacts. Let it render longer.

I don't quite understand what you're talking about (spooks?). I do enjoy a lot minimalism, so you proably won't see me doing some "non-minimalist / redneck / collector of figurines / dog/cat hair textured pine furniture " But I'll keep your sugestions in my signature, for future reference. (BTW, don't forget the Mies van der Rohe's bed-day furniture next to the non-handrail stairs )

....."spooked', yes, i mean that it just makes the room look a little 'souless, hollow or thin ..? a common complaint about minimalistic styles. (remember, i'm just the damn messenger on that one.)

Not that it is any of those things, because i think it has a relatively warm feel, it's just that the flash just doesn't help to sell that very well.

btw: oh yeah i noticed the Mies VR & the cantilevered steps. Scary with children!

I'm not a fan of the noise-reducing filters or the "flash" technique.

As for the prevailing style represented on the forum, I think the majority is personal experimentation. Viz is viz - the purpose is to show what the designer is thinking or the dreamer is dreaming.

Over on the Autodesk.vizions forum, someone posted a render of a basement/rec room. He also posted it at 3dcaffeine (I think that was it). Anyway, the crits he received were from completely different points of view. At vizions, the comments were mainly about functional elements of the space, design and layout. At 3dcaffeine, it was about putting beer glasses on the pool table and leaning the cues a certain way to give it a "lived-in" look. So for one group, the priority was the design, and in the other, it was the image. I think the guy's wife just wanted to see if the carpet was going to go with the tile.

you're right and I also hate the look of the room with flash, but my intention was to make it look more real, as the daylight one had a little more fantasy feel to it.

I think the 'fantasy feel' you refer to about the daylight version isn't really fantasy at all......., i believe it results from the 'perfect' nature (i.e., light steaks/shadows/ ambiance) of the render ---- it's really just that famous Maxwell style.
