The design above is my entry for Dream House Competition. The concept began from intense modeling sessions to explore the relationship between simultaneous and asimultaneous space. The concept is a theoretical exercise to resolve the relationship between real and virtual space in physical form. The nature of MODESPACE reflects the flux of being as the language of place where we share ourselves with others in the physical and the virtual sense.

In this work, I am exploring the concept of matte painting backgrounds, and integration with CG elements. Comments are always welcome. Thanks!

Forgive me for saying this, but architecturaly it looks as if your dream house just crashed... it looks more like a mess of steell and glass very much resembling a plain crash.

But i have to say that your render and as far as i can see, modeling is quite intensive.... i guess if you provided a plan or ?section? i would understand it a bit better. ::

i guess the short answer is that there is a validity for both terms. One relates to a condition vacant of all elements which cloud our basic understanding of time and space [in particular communication technology but not exclusively] the second fits in a contemporary age where technology has given rise to 'non space', and bridges space in real time allowing for simultaneous events to occur in different spaces and vice versa… like I said I am no expert and maybe not the right person to give a proper definition of these terms, but I am sure both terms do not supersede each other in this context ::

Actually I think your comments are rather a good because the intent is not a mixture that is anything but the subtle contact between the dynamic medium of physical space and virtual space. It is more like the first interaction of distinct masses of air that come into contact, so we are in effect looking at that that first milli-second where there is some chaos, and order intermingling.

What is asimultaneous space? Or simultaneous space?

Simultaneous space is my definition of physical space where consciousness (we, ergo humans) can come in contact with each other at once in one place and time.

Asimultaneous space is my definition of virtual space(the internet) where consicousness (we, ergo humans) can come in contact with each other but not necessarily be in one place or one time. A good example of this is the internet, and email, and message forums (time and place is greatly displaced).

You could read a message that was originally written a year ago, but be very relevant to you but not relevant to the initial discussion that went on a year ago.

So this place is where all of this comes together in one physical place, my dream home, where you have the interaction of simultaneous and asimultaneous space (The actual space, the internet, the telephone...etc.).

So this is an investigation into what that kind of space could possibly mean, architecturally.

Excellent explanation xsite. I agree, this kind of terms can only exist in our time, and quite possibly in a very ancient forms with ancient forms of communication, but only in the electronic age could there be asimultaneous space because the nature of the medium is two-way. The telegraph, and mail courier are not necessary qualifiable because they affect time and space proportionately.

I see now, thanks for the explanation Tyrone (and x_site). Btw, looking at your models it seems you have a very 'manual' way of modeling, like you do every bridge and bevel on each individual face, giving it a very non-cg look. It makes it look much more like a real maquette which I guess is a bonus in some situations.

Thanks Mihai, there is a lot of detail in this model as it sits right under half a million polygons. I think I will return to this to do more in terms of plans and sections, this particular project is going to take some time to really resolve completely in terms of documentation. I plan to do that for entry of this work into another competition that will end in 2/2006. I used a concrete texture with maxwell diffuse, maxwell dielectric, and maxwell metal silver. It is really the combination of the maxwell diffuse and maxwell metal silver (uv roughness added) that gives it something just slightly more realistic than CG appearance, which I love.

I will post more in terms of how this thing came to be in some more posts. With materials shots ala Maxwell Render of course.
