Hi,

This are some test I have done last weeks. The model is courtesy of Javelin Technologies ( http://www.javelin-tech.com ). Thanks to SolidWorks and Joe Dunne for provide me this model. If you have visited Siggraph 05 or SolidWorks world 2005 sure you have seen this real chopper, entirely modeled with SolidWorks.

There are not any post-process with photoshop or others, it is just the pure render. About 4 hours per image with a 1280 x 1024 res (sample level between 14 and 16). All the textures are the default solidworks textures. There are two plane emitters (D75) above. I can post the rest of the settings if you are interested.

I am not an artist, sure you can do it better ;)

Nice renderings - the ones without the SW Out out scale Textures :D . Why do they make the bricks etc so large ??

You seem to get have got rid of most of the noise in 4 hours - could you post the material setting - as I have problems getting a noiseless image after 8 hours !!.

Hi Jonathan,

here are my settings, sorry for the delay:

- There are two D75 emitters above with 500 W each one
- The red parts of the bike are plastic with 0.01 roughness, rgb(160,70,66)
and specular rgb(156,96,88)
- There are several types of metal, the brigthest one is aluminium with very small uRough (about 0.08-0.1). It has been used also in the ground of the image in the last image (the chopper reflected in the groud). The darker metals are cobalt with rough 0.5, silver with rough 0.3, and other aluminium with rough 0.3.
- There is a dark diffuse material (77,77,77) in some parts of the bike and the walls are diffuse too (244,244,244).

- In most of the pics I have used a fStop = 6 and shutter (70 -100). The iso is high in almost all the cases (400 or bigger) because the images were too dark with iso 100. The mm lens in 50mm in most of the pics, I use to put here the same value of the lens of the sw camera property manager.

- Burn 0.7 in all the pics, gamma = 2.2 and scale = 1. All the layers enabled

- No sky, all the light comes from the emitters.

- Sample level = 16, but I have stopped most renders in SL 14 (about 4 hours).

The render times depends on a lot of variables as sure you know. Try to keep the geometry of the emitters as simple as possible, and also notice that I have not used dielectrics in this scene, they increase the times. You can post any issue with the renders times I and will try to give you the best suggestions to optimize it.
