spekoun wrote:Tom, pls, say to me seriously. What should be wrong with my PC. This mxcl crashes occured on mine sometimes too. I mean it really seriously. Pls if you can advice me what to check on my system, i will do so. I ask you for advice because it seems to not many users have these crashes.
Thanks for your great understanding of situations at first.
I had some emails from friends with a crash report and
when I tried rendering thosee scenes on my ordinary system,
I saw they are not crashing.. So I could never had chance
to debug the situation because it mostly seems like due to high
temperature on CPU or windows' memory management or
probably one of the other softwares you are running meanwhile...
So hard to diagnose this situation but when you have crash,
you can test the same scene on another computer or send
a friend to test it for you to be sure... I couldn't find yet
and absolute reason for these crashes some of you have.

O.K. Yes, I render at low priority and i work along with rendering. It should be the problem. But last crash occured in the night, when i was not using it. These crashes are really unexpectable and seem to be random. Now i run crashed stene again without -hd. We well se if crashes again... Thanks for reply... :wink:

CPU is not my problem I thing. I made many renderings with Cinema without any crash. Maybe RAM, because Mxwell use very much of RAM. I will try some memory test. And my system is quite stable, I think.

Personnaly, i think that the computer you use for rendering, has to only got :
-OS
-2D & 3D softs
-Maxwell

Turn off your 3D soft while rendering
Don't listen to MP3 files while rendering, you loose beetween 3 & 5% of ressources, for what i've noticed.
Maybe format and reinstall your os, don't install gadgets, set your virtual memory to 2 or 3x your physical memory, defragment as often as you can, etc etc, make your computer as clean as you can, open your case...

Now this is a just-a-play render with plexi boxes:
(Plexi is default glass, uv=0,5 Ior=1.5)

And the resulting log; Tom, could you so explain how i must understand the Benchmark score?

Im triying to get the same "plastic" but I can´t. Got uv roughness to 0,5,abbe 151, nd number 1,5 and absorbance 0,01 but the boxes are not transparent.. they seems like diffuse material with roughness.

ah, the object is 0,4 cm thickness

oops, in fact uv =0,1 (sorry)
glass is BSC1
absorbance=0,01
abbe=30
Nd=1.5

Have you turned all caustics on?

Tom, there *are* still crashes with complex scenes. It might not happen on your machine at the exact same time, but at least under OS X Maxwell uses up the system ressources when you wait long enough.

Due to the very basic way of exception handling problems get not properly reported, but cause an application crash. Exeption handling in M~R / OS X is just inacceptable: Each and every error crashes the application without even showing a message.

Before NL doesn't fix this you should be *very* quiet about just blaming the machine. Until now each and every crash I had reported was fixed later, and I have no reason to suspect that this would be any different.

it seems that he has stopped to watch this topic ...

So anyone could explain me the benchmarck results i had a few posts before?

No def4d, I'm here :D
Know that benchmark is depending on your scene, not your hardware only. So, it may change scene to scene and it's only helpful if you're trying to to compare the same scene rendering on different hardwares.

Kabe, I can't say the same thing about OSX, you may be right there ;)
