[quote="daros"]i know too a few architects like your's. But normally they expect realism.
All our clients love the Maxwell quality.

Oh yeah, he loved it too, but I guess he's scared... he told me one of his client even complained because some flower beds he did once in a 3D render were not there when the house was finished ....

He also told me that writing on the 3D render "this is only an artist view" does not protect you in a trial....... because an architect is supposed to show final result in all their plans and drawings,.... and a 3D render, realistic, photographic, or cartoon quality is considered like a drawing...

Don't cote me on that , I only report what the guy was saying... funny enough... he's from Spain... the NL country....

so that's why i'm doing my own viz for my projects (i am the arch guy you all mentioned)... :D
we are not crazy, but when you don't know the tech and workflow behind the previz, then you want it for yesterday...and many don't
the best way is to include modeling and viz of the project from the start.
many architects do their previz when the project is finished. i think it's wrong cause it's important that you include modeling (it could be a real model not only 3d viz) from the start.
this tech is very important for us and that's why all the famous architects from the world have their own 3d viz studios inside their firms that fallow their work and are a very important part of the project.

read this article...
http://www.cgarchitect.com/upclose/article1_AH.asp

as for realism or not... it depends - i start with rough renderings of the model (usually done in modeling software - rhino) then when i'm ready i export it to max and then render it with textures, materials, lighting and stuff to achieve realism. but sometimes i do renderings that are not photorealistic. there are beautiful arch renderings that are not photorealistic. it depends of the projects... the

enough, i think i made my point...

Hi Adam Trachtenberg, you are right, Many of the famous Architect stutios Nody is talking about , are now working with external companyes. They make viz only for internal purposes at absolutly basic level. Most of them are woking with external companies to reach relism.
They have the big problem that if they win a competition with a abstract rendering the commitance can make many changes on the project.
So they need to define as much as possible the project and they need realism in a rendering.
I can't put the names here now but trust me.
In september we are allowed to publish the projects we have done for their competitions and you will understand.

jeez. i knew some of those works already (i've always thought that the quality of the work you do at stack studios is just outstanding, hardly seen anything close from any other italian based company), but all of them together are just amazing.

by the way, i didn't know you did the viz for that area in milano.

Thanks rivoli.
Yes this was a 17 days work. 3 minutes video (3 to 8 hours x frame) HD shooting, motion tracking, compositing, storyboarding, 20 print rendrings, no , this was too much work. Just to sincronize 4 studios in different places of the world was terrible. At the exactly the same time we was workinig on 10 minutes animation for the olympic agency. Y don't know how we done it all. Sorry, i know... it's thanks to our software but i don't want to talk about it again.
