'Orca, Homeward Bound started life as a simple test of using Terragen generated terrains in Cinema4D to see how they rendered with Maxwell Render. The scene sort of developed from that point.

Lighting comes from Maxwells' physical sky (with sunlight).

The terrain uses a textured diffuse material, the water surface is a dielectric material, the whale (exported from Poser) uses a textured plastic material and the saucer has a metal material applied.

Originally rendered at 2000*2000 pixels which took about 20 hours to reach sample level 15. A usable image was rendered much sooner but it was left overnight.

Postwork included softening some edges, adding a light mist over the water and adding the colour underneath the saucer.

If, you made it this far - thank you for viewing.

bugyboo: Thank you for the comment. I tend to agree about the whales' texture Perhaps a simple plain colour would have been better for this image.

I would have also liked to have rendered some foam effects for the water but I'm still waiting for Maxwell's clip map to be implemented.
