This would be even better if we could do some kind of larger distributed internet-linked network of maxwell render computers!

Hey Victor, for Maxwell Render V2- entertain the idea of internet distributed rendering among other computers with a maxwell license. We could have like 1000s of computers all linked and working on one huge collosial(sp?) gargantian render that would surely break all records!

Blah! NASA aborted the launch a while ago :(:(:( how depressing! i been waiting all day on the launch and now they dare to abort it. Grrrowll!

To quote from their website.
"NASA has scrubbed the launch of Discovery because of a problem with a fuel tank sensor designed to protect the Shuttle's engines by shutting them down if fuel runs low."

That Shuttle design and technology is sooooo outdated and old now it's not even funny anymore, it should be like the dinosaurs are.. extinct.
NASA needs new cheaper better and faster space travel tech and not the old scrappy Shuttle bird which looses feathers even before it flies away.
They probably would have a bigger chance getting into space now using a bigass slingshot and fire the astronauts up into space with that thing :)

NASA is totally screwed up, have you ever looked at how many X programs they've had to develop a new shuttle. They've spent billions on testing stuff that gets dropped as soon as a new political power or someone with a different idea walks through the door. The fleet is way past its prime, so I don't understand why they spent these two years focusing on the shuttles and not developing a new program. :?

It makes the same sense for me by travelling with a car. Trying to improve rockets is not the solution because you've always limited distance to go. Why not investing all for inventing better ways of transportation. Beam me spock

You would have to be pretty N.U.T.S to want to go up in one of those things....

The Shuttle design was efficient some years ago, but other options are now cheaper and safer.

The only reason those things have gotten so complex is because US admin insists on putting humans in space, but everything the astronauts can do, you can do with robotics. So much extra stuff has to be added to keep a human alive and well......air, water, food, air filters, climate control, 300 000 showers, 250 000 toilets.....all a big waste because of politics.

The idea that we get so much tech because of space travel is a bit old I think. It used to be true because back then industry was using mostly low tech manufacturing methods. But now when you look at innovations, the driving force is really the market and peoples needs.

Amen. We really shouldn't be spreading our grotesquely distorted DNA out into space anyway.

Who wants to be the one explaining to the Intergalactic Alien Council why we leave babies in trash cans and routinely murder each other for pleasure and profit?

Not me.

Back to my favorite uber-monkey distraction: cool pretend renders of real things.

The technological innovations that came from the space program have changed the world as we know it. The list of products that have been created from space technology range from cell phones to Velcro and none of them would have come about without the pioneering spirit of people pushing the envelope. To say that the space program is useless or that it's produces nothing useful is absolutely not true, why do you think were building that space station just for fun? I agree that robotics should be used much more than they are but there neither sophisticated enough nor intelligent enough to do everything a human can do. All of this is really about going to Mars anyway and for that you need humans.
