Unlike most I will be upset if this road map is accurate.

To get this render up to my expectations (based on current speed at which they make improvements) it will take at least 6 months longer and that is conservative!

buffos- I'm very sure that they are aware more then us that the development is taking longer then promised. Let us not add to there burdens. We are paying Alpha/Beta testers. Let us act in that way. We let them know what is needed and they make improvements based on our insites :D

We are all anxious 8) But lets face it...they will want to make the best product possible (for their egos and wallets.)

a roadmap has already been published on maxwellrender.com, it says customers will recieve mxi viewer, mat editor and interface in the months following the first beta. i vibe that nobody here (even those misterious forum users you talk about) would get any more detailed info about when the gui is ready.

The final release will be in October, with the features we have announced.

:: i much rather wait and be sure that all the features are working properly than rush to a "buggy" version by Octuber...

I think it is a bit of a mistake to give dates for this kind of things anyway... adds unecessary pressure and leaves some users very impatient... NL should understand that their users will 'bitch' about any delays to the 'roadmap'....

Regads,
Could someone please give a link to "features we have announced" so that I can see everything that the final will have :?

There was no plugin for the modeler you have and there is no standalone gui.
i'm having some kind of deja vu. i'm feeling like we've already been here.

if there was no max plugin exporter, and there was no word from nl that the gui would allow me to turn formats such as 3ds or dxf into mxs through the gui, then i wouldn't buy maxwell in alpha stage. i'd rather be waiting to gain some more info about how the final realise works.

I'm agree with buffos. Yes, I know that sometimes there are problems with software developing and it is not ever possible to be sure at 100% on the day of final release, but I can accept this kind of philosophy with free alpha\beta apps. Since Maxwell pre-releases are not for free, so costumers payed for the service, roadmaps HAVE to be respected at 101%. When we talkin about money, there is the need to act seriously.
I think it would been better if alpha\"beta" releases were free, this would avoided a lot of trouble. This is the reason make me don't buy M-R yet and waiting for final release, doesn't matter of its higher price.
Thanks.

What service did we pay for? I didn't pay for any service. I preordered a render engine.

What NL have said is, it will be ready in october with the announced features. As far as I know that means: material editor, GUI, displacement, sss, mxi viewer......so what they announced initially on the preorder page.

Guess we'll have to wait until october, that's the roadmap :)

Sorry mihai, for "service" I ment a generic commercial operation based on payment->product. I'm sorry for my bad english.

It's a difficult decision to announce a target date for software, especially when it's in the development stage. Any of you remeber VRay, and how far past their target date they were for version 1.5? They got seriously lambasted about it. Then on the other end of the spectrum, you have Brazil, where you haven't - and won't hear a peep from Splutterfish as to when they will be issuing an upgrade.

Either way, the customers get upset, and the developers are always the bad guys. Just keep in mind that this program is utilizing new technologies, and the NL team has to write pretty much everything from scratch. In all honesty, I'm not holding my breath for a final version by the target date, but I'm more than willing to wait for however long it takes. It'll be worth it regardless.

But again, can't you use Matador Light, or 3dstomxi (I think it's called), to be able to render with Maxwell?

bakbek renders from Sketchup, there is no plugin for Sketchup either. You have also rendered something.....so I'm not sure I understand why you say you can't use Maxwell.

Doing it via those tools is not much different than the current setup everybody else has with the Max/Maya plugins.
