Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

If the "Extend Time" option will be added it'd be nice to have a dropdown-submenu with "15 mins", "30 mins", "45 mins", "1 hr", "1 hr 30 mins", "2 hrs" and so on, up to and including 12 hours or so, so you can extend a render by one night and check it again the following morning.

Hey Metin,
• More efficient memory management. Not a lot of users already have 2 GB RAM and if I try to render a resolution of 2400 x 2400 with my 1 GB RAM I get a crash right now.
1Gb isnt enough, your OS takes up about 300Mb or so, windows memory management is poor, and being an old maxxer from way back I was used to crashes, I changed apps and now run on linux which rocks, its as solid as, not sure if this is anything that nextlimit can help with.

It's a shame linux has such a relatively crappy selection of programs to choose from. My new 'puter is coming on Tuesday complete with 2GB Ram so that should help things along.

Hey Smeggy,

This means we're brothers in new computing. :) My new system will arrive pretty soon as well and will also feature 2 GB. Let's kickstart Maxwell on our mean machines soon! :D

Concerning Linux: I like it, because ...

1: It's got an Amiga-like, quality-loving, dedicated community.
2: It's programmed far more efficient than Windows.
3: It's a free or relatively cheap competitor against Windows.

I dislike it because of the same reason Smeggy already mentioned: many major software gems such as 3ds Max and Photoshop are not available for Linux.

I've tried Linux so many times over the years (various distro's) and always end up back on windows after a short time. Driver issues, hardware support (lack of) programs and idiosynchracies all contribute to my return to windows. It's just not ready for desktop primetime yet , not for me anyway.

hey guys I'll be the first to admit that linux is a pain in the but to optimise, and maintain, but once its going its awesome, and its great for being productive on. I use slackware, its light and fast and I really have to disagree there arent a great deal but there are a productive bunch of apps out there particularly for cg related fields, maybe not a lot of pro cad apps, but you can certainly run photosop 7 under crossover office (cant actually believe you referred to 3dsmax as a gem  ) theres maya, xsi has a half assed attempt at a linux port but it doesnt come close, wings3d, silo, modo and zbrush are very soon going to have a linux port, its certainly getting a lot better. Then theres the windows hassles you dont have to worry about, spyware, virii (sp?), defragmenting hard disks, and linux supports up to 6Gb of RAM, and it handles it way better than windows, anyway dont want to start an OS war, atleast you guys have given it a go, did you do a customise your kernels, that often helps with drivers and such, anyway just blabbing now hehe

cheers

I wonder how long this will last ? I'm sure once Linux has a bigger market, there will be more virus created for it.

That is something everyone seems tro miss, it's not that other systems are impervious, there's just no real market for them with the small numbers. It's all about maximum impact and that's where windows comes in as the perfect target. If Mac's or linux were more numerous they'd be just as targeted as windows is. Anyone who thinks othewrwise is fooling themselves.

Concerning Linux: as far as I'm concerned I'll make the cross-over to Linux as soon as it has become a serious competitor for Windows, with all major publishers of the most important apps offering good and continuing Linux support. In other words: Windows sucks, but for now I'll have to live with it. :)

Sharpness of shadow is presumably a function of air clarity - a variable for light dispersion - caused by particles in the air - could provide us with a real world solution?

Cheers, Cameron.
