Hi All,
a VERY simple lighting test from the great book
"Painting with Light" by John Alton.

One emitter, smooth angles in all geometry.
Lightwave 3D connection with MR 1.2.2a.
Sampling level 26.03 now.

Hi Psanitra,
Pentium IV 3.4 here,
very clean and fast but very simple scene...

I like the brightness on the base coming from indirect illumination.
Also, dark parts are very accurate, great image!

Is it real or not? Great lighting.

Thank you Aldaryn, Micha, Sijen, Tom and Psanitra.
It's a very simple and fast test which i give to my 3D graphics students
to learn the basis of lighting with all 3D packages.
You already know them but there are some experience-based rules:

1)- Observe the geometry and give it the maximum details depending on camera distance. Make structure simple and never use hard corner.

2)- Resolve lighting without materials.

3)- Observe lighting in terms of gradients and vectors.

4)- Work with in-depth layer.

5)- Lighting is to comunicate.

I did a similar test too, although only let it run to level 13, didn't want my pc to be hung up for too long, I'll just post the link,

Tom - Hm, yeah, should have put 3 instead of 2 in the meshsmooth huh.

Cavities need more subdivision, but it's a nice example.

It would also be good to color one of the cubes to see some color bleeding in action. :)

Here's my first impression of it, hope i don't offend you now.

Technically: This works fine as a technical test to see problems and other issues with Maxwell.

Artistically: Nah, i don't see this as art. I'm sure there are people that appreciate art like this but not me. This is pure techical test work in my eyes, nothing else.

Sorry about what i said if it offended adl or anyone else but this is my first and direct impression and interpetation of it.

Maximus 3D it is very simple technical lighting test to teach the basis of 3D lighting...
Simple composition, one light, depth in the scene reached
without texture and color... only lighting.
Who say it is art? :D

He said it is art because Max has seen "painting with light"....
