Posting here (I use v.3 but I guess it's got the same rendering method):
I need to create this spot light:

Can't seem to figure out how to create an emiter that will deliver a light "pattern". all emiters create a blurry light at a distance more than few cm...help me please !

It's pretty well explained here, especially the Image projection settings:

To control the blurriness of the projected image, lower the Blur parameter.

hah, didn't know about such settings!
I just used simple plane for emitters.

If you need visible rays in the air, you need to use volumetric extension object with fairly low field density.
