Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

I posted this in the Maya plug in forum as well, but this seems like it might be an overall feature request.

We have been using Arnold's lens shader, which combines the left and right eyes into a single image render. I've noticed that, in Maxwell, I need to toggle the drop down in the camera attributes to left or right, but would it be possible to have a third option which would combine both eyes into a single image? As strange as it may sound, it has become increasingly efficient to render that way.

thanks in advance,

In which format does it combine the images? Because it seems there are quite a lot of different stereo formats you can have. Side/side, up/over, different kinds of cross formats.... There is a script you can find for Maxwell which automates the process of rendering the left/right renders (and the center one if you also want) but you'll have to assemble the images yourself in PS, which shouldn't take much if you have an action for it. Or create a droplet for even faster creation.

Arnold uses side by side (https://support.solidangle.com/display/ ... amera+Node).

combining the two images is extremely easy, but for maxwell specifically, it might provide some saving for the end user. There are many benefits to having them combined at render especially considering maxwell's comparatively excessive render times. One of the biggest benefits I can see is related to overall image brightness while samples are in progress. Having to separate the left and right renders completely, makes the left and right frames flicker extremely until enough samples are reached to get a full value structure. It makes wip images pretty useless... any saving here at all would certainly make me more inclined to use maxwell more in production.

thanks!

Good point! Althought we must take care to not overgeneralize. Renders in Maxwell usually stabilize in terms of brightness at pretty low SL (6-9), and from then on the noise is similar to film stock noise, so you would get a sort of night vision goggles effect.
