First attempt for basic layer of the ground covering small plants. Dry on the ground and highest mixing by two weight maps. I've decided to avoid displacement for the main ground object and material. The ground model is to big to achieve very small parts on entire visible area by displacement... :)

I spent a lot of time and found solution to make a moss on the stones. I used surface spread plugin to cover big stone with small balls on painted weightmap. After that i use Cinema metaballs on the balls and change the group of balls into more organic shapes. Finally I used Maxwell grass tag to cover moss object by cylindrical blades to get natural moss look. I thik that will work with the all objects which need to be mossy :)

Nice method breakdown, are you aware of 'surface to liquid' plugin, might be good for moss, I think it has its own version of metaballs, I havent used it yet, I might be wrong.

Ground planting looks very nice, looking forward to the animation? (as that would justify doing all the veg in 3D.. although just the challenge is also a valid educational reason)

That main rock looks like a photo 8)

Thank you Eric. I'm glad that you are still here in this long term project :) I'll try surface to liquid plugin, it sounds interesting. I'm thinking about winter scene and metaballs and plugins like you mentioned could be useful.
I'm thinking about something like "short form" animations to achieve realism in motion. I'm going to make a few shots from that scene.
Eric if I remember I read on the other topic that you are an old Imagine software user. I'm not sure. Old amiga program. Is it true ?
