Everything related to Maxwell Render and general stuff that doesn't fit in other categories.

i tested today to add layer to the spotlight material; the new layer have area emitter and applied this material to sphere
the render result is hidden sphere with point emitter only
if we duplicate the sphere and apply spotlight material to the clone we get point emitter with spot
but it is better if the material itself can give this result when using two layers

Ok but I'm not sure this is supported, just as you would get pretty strange results using an IES emitter with a regular emitter in the same material. Why would you want to do that? You can mix regular emitter materials to get some effects like glowing lava etc. but a spotlight is a spotlight, a lightfixture (IES) is a lightfixture and not some other things. They are simply a special category of emitters with a specific purpose only.

yes but if we can use two or more soptlights in the same material we can create nice effect without need to duplicate object ; and we can see the hidden sphere as light source
duplicate of an object can do that but allow material to do that is much better and useful
i tried to use ies emitter with regular emitter but maxwell don't support that
