I've no idea why my MXS references don't render. Up to now they have. I haven't moved them and Maxwell seems to think it's found what it needs to render the objects. But all I get are ghostly images where the MXS references stood. Is there a way to force SU or Maxwell to refresh the path to the original MXS file that the MXS references relate to?

I'm on V2.7

I would first try adding a search path (or paths) to see if that helps.

Can you explain why this happens? Is the link broken? Does Maxwell just render the graphical nature of the MXS ref in SU? I mean the red boxes and odd piece of significant geometry.

Yes, that would mean that the MXS was not able to be found at any of the current search paths.

That didn't help unfortunately. I placed the folder in Paths in Prefs in Maxwell and nothing loaded.

What did work, though, is I reloaded the MXS reference before deleting the ones that weren't rendering out. The MXS ref looked more complex. The 'older' ones were with far fewer red boxes, so perhaps the MXS refs that I placed originally had some 'parts' missing?

Anyway, the introduction to the scene of the fresh MXS refs suddenly fleshed out the older instances of it. Now it all renders.

If adding a search path did not help, the only possibility I see is that the data identifying the component as an MXS reference had been damaged or removed. An MXS Reference in the plugin is simply a component with the path to the MXS file attached to its definition; if you were to explode it, and then make it into a component again, the new component would not be an MXS Reference. Since you say the geometry in the reference changed when you updated it, that could imply that the reference was created some time ago (previously, instances in the MXS were not scanned in building the bounding-box representation), increasing the likelihood that in the interim, the component, or its definition, had been re-made, either by you, or by some unrelated plugin that you use.
