I think that the medical evidence for the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle is hard to argue with these days.

I mean, a life of create render, press render hardly increases your odds of good health.

These days in my late 30's I don't exercise at all. I am an introverted guy. I am not a beach guy. I am not a competitive guy. The only sport that I tried for a few years since leaving school was a few years of croquet in about 2000. But after about 4 years I was bored with it. It didn't help my health that much anyway. The lunches in croquet events were sumptuous

There is also the secondary benefit of leaving the desk chair and seeing stars, the sky and clouds: we are meant to be rendering natural things and the world! Being indoors for too long does not make a good 3D artist! I also have no doubt that activity helps creativity. When I was at school I had a sporting period once a week. I would bang a ball against a wall and when I came back for the next study period I had creative ideas going at a million a minute!

So how do us 3D rendering magicians keep our health in a good way? I don't know what sport or activity that I could do. I live in a pretty open, grassy area. It's not a concrete jungle. So I am lucky there. And the air is clean. So maybe I could walk for 10 minutes a day even if it's down the street? I don't have any health issues to stop me doing stuff. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't take any health medication.

How do we stay healthy? So that we can conquer the planet with our 3D brilliance

I am late 30's too, 6'-0" tall and 200 lbs. I work on the 5th floor of an office building and make it a point to always take the stairs. I also hit the gym 3 days a week after work. I think if I didn't do these things, I would be 350 lbs. One of the joys in life for me is eating yummy food and I want to make sure I can continue this, so the exercise is not a way to "get ripped" or have a beach body. It's just maintenance to offset this sedentary daily office existence and my love of food.

One thing's for certain... The last 10 years has been a rude awakening. I used to be able to eat anything and everything and remain skinny. Those days are gone!

Brian you just wrote exactly what I was going to write, except the exercise 3 times a week part....I love good food and especially desserts too :P Hence why I'm almost 100kg now.

I'm sure in our profession, taking the time to do some sort of exercise is almost mandatory, seriously. Don't kid with your health, we weren't ment to sit on our ass all day. I get very bored with jogging, so I'm thinking of going hiking at least in the weekends, and thus also take nice landscape pictures so the motivation would be there. So that would be my suggestion :)

- Learn photography (comes in real handy for Maxwell work too)
- Go hiking and take nice pictures
- Eat well

It's worth adding as well that science has found out a lot of things. Many people are unaware that WHO classes going without sleep as a class 2 carcinogen.

So keep those late nights to a minimum! Avoid those all night party animal street romps! Especially if you are dressed as Batman, Spiderman or Wonder Woman!
