Yes, definitely. In the downloads page, in step 2 "Select Platform" combo, select "Linux64 tarball". You will get a .tar.gz file which contains maxwell.

BTW, which error are you getting when launching the installer? Did you run it as root or as another user?
It is a self executable file: just type:
Code: Select all
[maxwell@stonelli output]$ ./Maxwell_3.0.0.0
and it should launch a graphical installer.
If you type:
Code: Select all
[maxwell@stonelli output]$ ./Maxwell_3.0.0.0 --help
it will give you a help screen with several options.

Hope this helps.

...I'm sorry but if I unpack the "Maxwell directory" from the ".tar.gz" file, I get this error:

Image

and if I try to start the installation executable, I get this error:

Image

...which means, that the file could not be opened...

I also tried the command line options with "sudo"...

(I downloaded the installation executable several times)

By the way...

Just tried the "old" executable "Maxwell_2.7.20.0" - this one works without any problem and opens the installer...

Ok,

Let's go with the second error, where it says that you can't view/open/display the file. This is because Maxwell_3.0.0.0 is an executable file and must have execute permissions for the current user. Right click on it and go to permissions and add execute permission to the permissions list. I do not have Ubuntu here installed, but this can be done by almost any graphical user interface.
Once added the permission, double click on it and it should start.

Let's go with the first error, when you unpack the .tar.gz file:
this is not an actual installer, it's just the maxwell installation folder tarred and gzipped. To have a fully working maxwell installation, you must create a couple of environment variables for your user. To do this, edit $HOME/.bash_profile (if you're using bash as your command line shell) or $HOME/.cshrc (if you're using csh) and add the following lines:

for .bash_profile

export MAXWELL3_ROOT=/opt/local/maxwell64-3.0/
export MAXWELL3_MATERIALS_DATABASE="/opt/local/maxwell64-3.0/materials database/mxm files/"

where /opt/local/maxwell64-3.0/ is the folder where you unpacked the .tar.gz file

for .cshrc

setenv MAXWELL3_ROOT /opt/local/maxwell64-3.0/
setenv MAXWELL3_MATERIALS_DATABASE "/opt/local/maxwell64-3.0/materials database/mxm files/"

note that if the installation path name has spaces in it, you must enclose it in quotes.

Done with the editing, logout and login again for the changes to take effect and run maxwell.

Hope this helps.
Regards.

Miguel,

thanks a lot (espacially for the fast response) - that did it! (right clicking and making it executable) :D

But now I'm running into the licensing problem again (as on my Apple machines)

Tried to activate it as a node license (online) and I got this:

Image

Could you please help again :?

EDIT:

In my License Info I can see that there are several licenses activated:

Image

I just want to have my eight Render machines to have node licenses (that can be fixed to the machine), so that I can render on the network (with "Maxwell Manager", "Maxwell Monitor" and on every machine the "Maxwell Render Node"...)

Hi,

as i can see in your account details window, you have several suite_floating licenses, it's the basic pack, isn't it, with 1 Suite floating and 10 Rendernode licenses.

Ok, to get all the nodes up and rendering, you need to install a license server. This program will grant licenses to all the machines where you want to run maxwell. Did you install it in one of your Apples or do you want to install it in one Linux box?

Perfect.

For both OSX and Linux boxes, create a text file, with the simplest text editor you can use, with the following content, just one line:
Code: Select all
HOST <license-server> ANY 5053
where <license-server> is the IP address of the Win7 x64 machine. I, for example have this file with this line:
Code: Select all
HOST 192.168.0.13 ANY 5053
and save it with this name: maxwell_license.lic

Where?
In the linux boxes, in $HOME/Maxwell folder
For example, /home/arch3990/Maxwell/maxwell_license.lic

In OSX, in /$HOME/Maxwell folder
For example, /Users/arch3990/Maxwell/maxwell_license.lic

Check that in the Win64 machine the firewall allows inbound connections through port 5053, which is the one used by the applications to communicate with the rlm server.

Did you download the license for the Win 64 machine license server with the Licenseactivator program?

Hope this helps. :)

Ok,
let's see. Did you activate the Suite Floating License in the Win 64 machine?

Let's check the license server in the Win machine. Open a web browser and in the URL type:
Code: Select all
http://localhost:5054
Something like this should appear:
screengrab_0.png
Go to the left pane and click on "Status"
Something like this should appear:
screengrab_1.png
If the line with the nextlimit ISV Servers doesn´t appear, press in the left pane the button "Reread/Restart Servers" and then, in the centre frame, REREAD/RESTART

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Could you show me on of those files /home/michael/Maxwell/maxwell_license.lic please?

One of the things that could be blocking the communication with the server is the presence of some firewall. Is there any one active? Can you access to http://192.168.0.13:5054 from one of the Linux boxes ? (192.168.0.13 is your Win machine, isn't it?)
