Is there a special trick for moving/rotating/scaling objects in studio?

I can see the handles but i can't grab them or sometimes i have to click beside them to select it...
But then maybe only one of the three handles is working.
When i can select it i have to move the mouse up and down to move the object left/right or left to move it right.
Sometimes if i can move an object the program crashes.
Sometimes i can't zoom, only pan in a 2D view.



(No high poly stuff or big scene... i'm only trying to place a sphere in the simball scene... )

This has been a problem for a long time for me too. I think there's already a couple of topics on here about it. From reading Next Limit's responses, there doesn't really seem to be any particular rhyme or reason for why it does it, or any trick to fix it.

I find using numerical values is the best and most accurate way to move stuff, but that doesn't beat being able to use the handles.

I had this prob, it got a lot better after getting newer gfx drivers.. but the old studio was certainly more stable. Thankfully I've no reason to use studio for anything more than material tweaks.

Just don't use studio to edit anything at your scene. Use it for material and texture that's it.

Sometimes you have to move a few stuff in order to refine your scene or import part of
other models in the studio like 3d elements from your own Maxwell bibliotheque.. So
yes this is an old issue that should have been solved long time ago..
Trick you can make smooth input with your middle mouse button and drag it up and down
instead of typing numeric values...

happens in 2.6 and 2.7 whenever i change to a 2d view and then back. amd firepro v49oo or v5900 card are good cards, so should not be them. only restarting studio brings original functionality back. seems a quirk not high on the fix agenda...

i did some further testing...

i think the 2D-zoom problem occurs only with a locked camera. I can't understand why, because i don't try to move the
locked camera but the 2D view. But maybe this is how it is meant to be.

Concerning the selection problem i have found that it only happens if a camera is selected for the viewport
(displaying a view frame), switching to the normal perspective mode BEFORE selecting a 2D view seems to
avoid the selection issues. But i don't know...

And i think i will never understand why the 2D views are associated with a perspective view or camera...

i experienced the same the last time i updated the driver and i had to go back to the last one... so i'm not sure if i want to try a newer one.

Just don't use studio to edit anything at your scene. Use it for material and texture that's it.

i try to avoid it too, but i use sketchup and max and have to use studio sometimes to combine scenes.

There are many users, for whose 3D softwares no plugin exists and therefore need to work in Studio all the time... Users of Catia, Proe, Creo, Alias, Matlab, Mathematica, Ansys, Generativecomponents, self-written form-generation software... There are not only architects, but also industrial designers and product development engineers out there, who very much like to use Maxwell Render and for whom Studio is the solution.

These users may have never tried to manipulate a render scene in a CAD environment with multi-part CAD assemblies that try to recalculate every time you move a part. It can be unwieldy. Studio could be such a godsend and a full justification for the purchase price of Maxwell.

Studio is so close to being an important, reliable product. If it's already got all the groundwork for basic scene setup and object manipulation, we just would appreciate it if the persistent problems were resolved.

No one is asking for realtime collision detection or spline editing or anything else substantial, we just want to move our shit around.

Could not agree more. Why not iron out the UI errors, etc. It can't be so very difficult; it's not rocket science to get rid of Open GL glitches and make a grid that one can snap objects or groups to or that can be preset; or make working with pivots more CAD like. So many of my fellow engineers and designers would like to use Maxwell Render but have to stick with shit like Keyshot or Shot Pro.

I couldn't agree less. Anyone who is serious about rendering with Maxwell Render should have a dedicated 3D non CAD software for scene setup/manipulation. Maxwell is a render engine. I prefer them to spend their $$$ and time on developing their render engine further instead of wasting precious resources on improving a redundant Maxwell Studio.

Not surprisingly I vehemently disagree with that uber-elitist stance(sounds so familiar too)...but I also know this is the company line. This outlook unfortunately ignores that a large percentage of Maxwell license holders are obligated to use Studio... and it IS a selling point for the software.

But I've posted too much here recently already -- pretty soon I'll see my stalkers show up , so it's time to disappear into the shadows again.

I can sympathize because the few times I have used Studio, I found it could be difficult at times. But to be in the rendering market without a dedicated 3D app is shooting yourself in the foot.

Bubbaloo I know you are a beastly product visualizer and I'm totally in agreement with you, philosophically. But just a few points:

- Maxwell Studio, which they already went through the effort to create, is nearly perfect for what CAD users usually need it for, and is overall quite capable software. It accepts a variety of generic 3D file formats.
- We already have expensive CAD packages which don't have a plugin, but which can output to those file formats. So we are so close to success we can nearly taste it.
- The ability to take these files and stick them into a straightforward environment in Studio, and simply drag them around, is not asking very much of the software. Would correcting these issues really waste precious resources so vastly? New Grass engine: no problem. Moving objects around in space: not important.

Personally the reason I'm such a stickler for this issue isn't because it's preventing me from using Maxwell. It's just because it's so tantalizingly close to being a reliable solution.
