My gut doesn't 'buy it'.. conceptually it seems idealistic / naive. I couldnt understand how their 2d diagrams would work in 3d. It might be mathematically possible but only show a speed boost for simple scenes, their wont be any nice curves or sweetspots in a typical scene, so better off with random sampling.

I dont know much about this subject, just a feeling really...
