A minor thing really, but (I think) since 2.7 you cannot rename materials anymore by simply clicking&typing in 'Name' box of the material. I'm talking about Studio, just so you know...
A quick workaround is going to the materials' list > right click on the material > Rename
It's a bit annoying, can we have it fixed, please?

When renaming in the material list, you can also hit F2, rather than using right click > Rename.

You are right,

In fact, we disabled that option to rename the material in the Name box.

We did it because it introduced other bigger problems due the double possibility of renaming it inside the Material Editor (in the Name box) and outside (in the Materials List).

Thus the best way to avoid conflicts due redundant access to names were disabling this renaming from the Name box.
Now, to rename a material, you have to select it on the Materials List and hit F2 (or double click), consistent with the procedure you use to rename a camera or an object.

I hope this doesn't introduce a bigger issue.

Thanks a lot for explaining that issue!

There are 2 things I would like to ask though:

1/ Since renaming through Name box is now disabled, perhaps we can have just as a simple text (not Name box) if possible. Cause, when you have that Name box in there, that is not grayed out, where you can use everything (like right-clicking, selecting text...) EXCEPT for inputing text, I just can't stop clicking on it.
Others might not agree with me here, though...

2/In 'Material Editor' (as stand-alone), you can no longer rename materials.
The only way to give material desired name is to "Save as..." it and then rename it manually.
That could be a huge problem when you're making a library of hundreds of categorized materials -
(For example, Materials' name would be "Old Maple", while MXMs' file name - Wood/wood_001.mxm
