Hello,
i have a room which renders nicely in reasonable times; then client wanted curtains at windows, so most light comes from curtain's thin SSS and transparency: times are going over the roof...
Is there a trick to get times as if curtains were not there ?

If the woodwork of the window is not too complicated and the courtain not very folded you can make the courtain opaque and add a mxi emitter layer painted to mimic the effect of the sss; so the illumination would come mainly from the courtain material without any refraction or sss. It's easy to get a natural effect with multilight.

Another option could be making it opaque but microperforated with a layer mask, so again, you don't get refraction or sss.

I could not resist.

Had to learn this the hard way when working in archviz some time ago. ;)

In general, customers ( and bosses ) just don't give a damn about those details, especially if they want to change them in no-time ( about 99% of the times ).
