I have been purging a bunch of MXI files from my computer to clear up some space, and almost everytime I search for *.mxi, explorer crashes.

My guess is that it has to do with the shell thumbnail generator... (i noticed it happens only/mostly with my old mxi files, or when they are large files).
I can reproduce it consistently.

PS: right after I posted this, I decide to try to remove the Maxwell Shell, and it solved the problem... unfortunately, now my mxms have no thumbnails...

I write the explorer plugin -- would it be possible for you provide an .mxi that crashes? Hopefully not too large.

Found one.

I removed the .mxi extension to prevent it from crashing my computer.
Unfortunately, the only one I found that consistently crashed was 2gb (I compressed it to 1.6)

I am uploading it now and I will post the link once it's done.

Meanwhile, some additional info for your reference:

Win 7 x 64.
Maxwell 2.6.1
The MXI was generated by an earlier version of MXRender, 2.0 or 2.5 most likely.

i am having trouble with this too.
sometimes explorer crashes, but most of the times i either don't see a thumbnail for mxi at all (black), or when i click through different mix (being in detail mode) the image won't update, so it shows the last thumbnail in the info bar at the bottom of the explorer window

it seems the bigger the mxi is the more it is likely to break or get stuck.
