Also forgot to say the bubbles are a coating with the bsdf turned off, so not actually AGS afterall :roll:

For a close-up you might need to model the honeycomb with some mathematical fractal modelling thingy, sounds way too hard.

I don't think this is going to work for me anyway, unfortunately. The AGS renders much faster now, but the look just isn't right. The intersecting bubbles look like just that - it doesn't have the right sort of 'cellular' structure that bubbles have so it looks wrong.

Looks like I'm beat on this one as I don't know any way to really model that kind of thing.

Thanks for the insights on the materials though!

Looks interesting - I will look into it a bit. I'm not sure it will quite do it either though, as the pieces left over from the Voronoi fracture are not rounded out on the non-compressed sides so don't really look like bubbles do. I'm not sure if I can get around that or not, but thanks for the link - definitely worth checking into!

Aniki, I'm not a max user but that cellular mode doesnt appear to be able to be converted to geo, so thats the catch, perhaps you can find more info on that? I'm curious it would be great to convert it (will be heavy though) or find a programme which generates such a mesh from an inputted geometry (obj file probably).

I still like the voroni fracture concept, just 'optimize/weld' the fracture so thats its all one mesh again with single sided faces, and uv a bulge normal map onto those faces, then place some tiny spheres at the interesections - several ways to do that..

Havent tried this but sounds reasonable for a mid-range shot and suitably quick to do?

Herve, when I get a realflow-c4d-maxwell setup (and study reaflow too!) that sounds like the solution for animations where you want moving bubbles.. still downloading the video 328 mb :roll: ,will check it....

EDIT: cool vid, but I'm very suspicious about the camera angle, why was that necessary, almosty certainly to avoid the refraction issue with the sides of the glass and the animated fluids.

Yep, I remembered. I am not sure how to do the soft bodies, and I was hoping to work in Maxwell. As well, it's not totally clear that Phoenix would do it perfectly anyway. I had a quick exchange with the programmer and he wasn't sure it would cut it for close-up either, or that was my take away. It is still probably the best bet though :)

Splash kit does not cover this kind of thing - but thanks for the thought.

@Hervé: I wasn't sure Realflow could generate a mesh for foam, or whether it was just for the particles, but looks like it could. I only have a RF4 license though, and the upgrade is out of the range of my wee studio :)

@Eric: that sounds like it might work - the weld/normal map thing. I will see if I can give that a try.

After all of the scrambling and testing it sounds like my client is thinking of dropping the bubbles/foam so I might dodge this bullet for now. Fingers are crossed :)

Added more bubbles, and booleaned the foam so it sits just inside the tub, and improved the bubble.mxm, would have preferred them positioned a bit lower, also have some smoothing error, but this is only a test;
