Yes, but there is still no simple way of camera mapping implemented in Maxwell if I'm not mistaken.

There's not really a simple way to do what you want anywhere -- even in SketchUp it isn't simple (easy yes, simple no)... and that's the simplest method I've seen for the type of thing you want.

Do bear in mind you can use the SketchUp plugin to export to Maxwell Studio and you do not need to use the "Pro" version of SketchUp any longer to use the plugin -- so it wouldn't cost you anything but a little time to try.
