I have downloaded a partial fix which updates the registry, but the image only occupies the top left quarter of the thumbnail.

Does anybody have a fully working fix for this please?

I can see thumbnails in windwos 7 without doing anything special... I don't know where your problem comes from.

I dont see any thumbnails of a 3dsmax file content in my windows explorer. Never ever... Is there a tool or so?
