I think I'm just going to have to go with Mental ray for this, which is a shame as I love the simplicity of Maxwell.
If that's the case some light retopo to the nose should resolve the issue, because from level 3 a 16-bit displacement works perfectly for pretty much everything else.

Are you using the multi-map exporter plugin for ZBrush?

Best,
Jason.

How do you judge Render-Speed on Low-Poly with Displacement vs relatively HiPoly with a Normal Map (just talking about Still Images here)?
Sketchup is capable of creating displacement (and subdivision) friendly meshes -- you just have to be mindful of Ngons (which Sketchup loves to create) and triangulation... but there is a Quad-tools plugin for Sketchup to resolve alot of this.

To answer the question of how to judge speed -- I usually import geometry from ZBrush directly into Studio (which is my preferred app)... and Studio can handle both types of geometry very well (low poly/high poly), and at that point a quick test render will tell you how fast its going to be.

Jason.

Hi everyone

Here is the finished product if you're curious to what I wanted to use it for.

Unfortunately I had to go with Mental Ray as it was the only way I could get the displacements to work.

However here is a link to another animation that I did using Maxwell.
