Hi Tom,

i just found this old thread and saw that you have 1,65v applied for the vdimm. The max vdimm for sandy bridge is specified with 1.575v and there have been reported some cases of damaged memory controllers in the months after sandy bridge release.
It is not clear if it is really a problem of too high vdimm or if it's only in combination with too high cpu pll or something. But if i were you i wouldn't risk to try it out, especially because there is no real benefit using faster ram with sandy bridge.
Maybe it's no problem at all, but i wanted to warn you ;)

Thanks. Seriously, since from the beginning my mobo has booting issues. Apart from auto-doubled boots due to overclock, it sometimes tend to refuse the boot and hang. But, I put the blame on ASUS and damn the day I didn't pick Gigabyte as usual for years. :)

i just noticed that the i7 970 got a 30% price cut a few days ago... it seems to be sold out now.

i've ordered two of them to replace some old i7 930/950 and give a ~50% speed boost to the old riggs (it's still faster @4GHz than a 2600K @4,7GHz)

maybe it's useful for someone else too...
